Staying Bright Through the Winter Chill โ„๏ธ

Cold weather, grey skies, and darker days can sometimes make it harder to stay upbeat, but there are small, powerful ways to support your mental health during the winter season.

Here are a few simple tips:
โ˜€๏ธ Chase the daylight โ€“ A walk in the morning sun can lift your mood and boost vitamin D.
๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ Move your body โ€“ Even light movement can help reduce stress and energise your day.
๐Ÿ“ž Connect often โ€“ Keep in touch with people who lift you up, even with a quick message or call.
๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Stick to a routine โ€“ Structure brings comfort and helps you feel more in control.
๐Ÿ’› Show yourself kindness โ€“ Prioritise rest, and donโ€™t feel guilty for slowing down.

If you're finding things tough, you're not alone.
๐Ÿ’ฌ iCoordinate offers counselling support to help you feel more like yourself again.

Thinking about getting an assistance dog in NSW?

Assistance dogs are specially trained to support people with disabilities, whether it's for mobility, sensory support, or mental health. They have full public access rights under NSW and federal law.

To get one, your dog must be trained to meet behavioural and hygiene standards, and be microchipped and registered with your local council (registration is free).

What NDIS Covers
The NDIS can fund costs associated with owning an assistance dog, such as food, equipment, and veterinary care, typically around $2,600 per year under core supports.

Blindness is a spectrum โ€“ not all blind people see the world the same way.

From blurry shapes and light perception to tunnel vision or patchy sight, blindness looks different for everyone. Itโ€™s not always total darkness.

Understanding this helps break stereotypes, support inclusion, and foster real accessibility.

NDIS Tip โ€“ Overspending or Underspending Your Plan?

Managing your NDIS budget can be trickyโ€”but staying on track is key to making your funding last.

๐Ÿ”น Overspending can lead to supports being cut short or out-of-pocket costs.
๐Ÿ”น Underspending might raise questions about whether your funding matches your needs.

To avoid either:
โœ”๏ธ Track your spending regularly
โœ”๏ธ Review service agreements and provider costs
โœ”๏ธ Reach out to your Support Coordinator if things change

The NDIS has introduced changes to provider travel pricing as part of the 2024โ€“25 annual pricing review.
Why?

Because participants told them that travel costs were using up funding too quickly.

The updated rules aim to:
โœ… Encourage more efficient scheduling
โœ… Ensure travel costs are fair and transparent
โœ… Help you get better value from your NDIS budget

More of your funding should go towards your actual supports, not travel fees.
