📰 Our CEO John Cleary recently shared his perspective in the Newcastle Herald on the proposed Thriving Kids program.

While the proposal has raised many questions and concerns for families, John emphasises the importance of keeping the NDIS focused on people with significant and permanent disability, while ensuring children and families continue to have strong, accessible supports.

This is part of an ongoing national conversation, and Mai-Wel will keep engaging with families, participants, and the broader community as more details emerge.

Some of our Home and Living Pathways participants spent their weekend enjoying the lovely weather we've been having ☀️

The weekend was a great chance to get outdoors and soak up the sunshine, enjoying gentle walks and time in the community. The fresh air, friendly chats and a change of scenery was an uplifting reset.

Others chose a quieter pace at home cooking something delicious and enjoying the comfort of familiar spaces. The calm routines, favourite recipes and cosy downtime support wellbeing and confidence🏡

Whether outside or indoors, these moments are valuable for building routine and encouraging connection and joy!

Jayden is building skills and confidence through work experience at Reading Cinemas Maitland 🎬

Jayden has started a 12-week work placement to grow his employability and learn about the retail and movie industry.

After joining the Mai-Wel Academy to deepen his understanding of the workforce, he took the initiative with his support worker to ask the Reading Cinemas team about work experience, and they said yes.

On placement, Jayden is learning general duties, building professionalism, and strengthening his people skills.

He’s said yes to every opportunity so far and is eager to keep expanding his knowledge, “𝘐 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘦𝘯𝘫𝘰𝘺 𝘪𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦. 𝘐’𝘮 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴!”

Our Parent Pathways Walking Group comes together each Thursday for a walk around Maitland Park!

It’s a great way to enjoy some exercise, connect with others, reduce isolation, and support parents as they build confidence and plan their next steps in education, training, or work.

Parents and carers are encouraged to come along, and stay afterwards for a BYO cuppa and chat.

🎉 We’re heading to Mayfield Day!

Join us on Saturday 18 October at Dangar Park for a celebration of community, connection, and local talent.

From 10am to 3pm, Mayfield will come alive with food trucks, market stalls, live music, kids’ activities, and more. Best of all, it’s a free, family-friendly event.

The Mai-Wel team will be there to share information about our programs and services, and to connect with the community we’re proud to be part of.
