On this day, let us remember that Indigenous peoples are actors of change, guardians of natural resources and carriers of unique worldviews, knowledge and skills. We must protect their traditions and ways of life – while respecting their rights.

This quote of Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, outlines International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples perfectly.

Have a fabulous day everyone

Let’s celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day with a reflection of the meaning behind this year’s theme - “Little footsteps, big future” which emphasizes the importance of culture, community and connection to country.

These were the same words for our Connecting Countries program that ran for three years, from 2022 to the end of 2024, involving both men and women programs. Reported outcomes included “increased peer and community-based relationships following the program, increased connection and belonging to their self, community and culture and an increased understanding of the structures within community that are available to support...”

May all children experience support that is linked with culture, community and connection to country when they work with our Matung Kunarr service. Our child and family services arm that provides more than just support and care, but also identity, resilience and recognition.

We are thrilled to release our Aboriginal Workforce Strategy! The title ‘Nyumbah Garihma’ Strategy are Bundjalung words. Nyuhmba meaning “show, guide or teach” and Garihma meaning “take care of” or “care for”. These two words embrace the intention of the strategy

We could not be more excited to share our strategy to grow our Aboriginal Workforce, you can check it out here - https://ap1.hubs.ly/y07V4d0

To coincide with NAIDOC week 2025 We Care NSW are proud to announce that our Child and Family Services name and business structure has been updated to reflect our continued commitment to supporting Aboriginal children, young people, families and communities. We Care NSW will now be known as Matung Kunarr Aboriginal Corporation (We Care NSW). The change represents our commitment to providing child and family services as a not-for-profit Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation registered with the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations.

Our name reflects our commitment to our local communities with “Matung Kunarr” meaning - Matung (‘Courageous’) and Kunarr (‘family/community') in the local Wonnarua Language.

Our service will continue without any disruption to our current services. You may notice an update to our website, correspondence and invoicing arrangements.

All contact details, staff, practices, policies, and procedures will remain the same and our continued commitment to providing supports that meet the individual needs of children, young people and families and that align to our Matung Wannay Practice Framework will be continued to be a strong focus of our service. Matung Kunarr will continue to have strong ties and collaborations with We Care NSW as one of the only Aboriginal NDIS, Behaviour Support and Allied Health service in NSW.
