📢 We wanted to share some updates about how funding periods are being managed in NDIS plans.

The NDIA are gradually introducing shorter funding periods to help you manage your budgets more easily. See below for more information 👇

If you have questions about how this affects your plan, feel free to reach out— We are here to help! 😊

We’re gradually introducing shorter funding periods in participants' plans to help participants more easily manage their budgets.

If you’re starting a new NDIS plan or going through a reassessment, you will now have a discussion about funding periods in your plan.

The length of funding period will be based on participant’s individual circumstances and will usually be a three-month funding period.

You might be asking, can a funding period be different lengths in my plan?

Three-monthly funding periods is the starting point, but each decision around funding periods is made on an individual basis considering range of factors including risk to participants and support needs.

For example, your plan might have funding periods of one, 3, 6, or 12 months. You may also have one funding component amount with 3-month funding periods and another component amount with shorter, one-month funding periods.

Animal Therapy? Animal Assisted Therapy?
The NDIS has provided some much needed clarity surrounding what IS and what IS NOT considered a funded support.

NDIS Participants CAN still access Music Therapy, if the therapist is registered with the AMTA.

NDIS Participants CAN still access Music Therapy, if the therapist is registered with the AMTA.

AMTA is pleased to see further recognition of registered music therapists by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission in its publication, 'Quality supports for children in the NDIS'. The new booklet is designed for families and carers of children who are NDIS participants. It aims to help families identify quality supports. Page 3 states:

"Providers or their staff may also need to register with a relevant professional body to practice in Australia... A music therapist must be registered with the Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA)."

Registered music therapists are uniquely qualified to use music as a therapeutic intervention. This resource recognises the value and specialist skills of registered music therapists and the important role AMTA plays in ensuring safety and quality for NDIS participants.
