Hypnobirthing Course – April 12 & May 6 ✨

I’m so excited to be running my next Hypnobirthing Courses on:
🤍 Sunday April 12
🤍 Wednesday May 6

Birth doesn’t have to be something we fear.
When women understand their bodies, their nervous system, and how to work with birth instead of against it — everything changes.

This course is designed to help you:
✔ Understand the physiology of birth
✔ Reduce fear and anxiety
✔ Learn breathing techniques that calm the nervous system
✔ Use hypnosis-based tools to stay relaxed and in control
✔ Support your partner in feeling confident and involved
✔ Create a birth environment that protects oxytocin
✔ Feel informed, empowered and prepared
Hypnobirthing isn’t about having a “perfect” birth.

It’s about having a calm, informed and supported experience — whether that’s a natural birth, induction, or caesarean.
When we reduce fear, we reduce tension.
When we reduce tension, we reduce pain.
When we reduce pain, birth flows more smoothly.

If you're pregnant — or supporting someone who is — and want to approach birth feeling grounded rather than overwhelmed, this course is for you.

Small groups. Evidence-informed.
Supportive environment.

💫 The Calm Before Her Storm — and the Power She Discovered

When Emma first found out she was pregnant, the joy was overwhelming — but so was the fear.

Like many first-time mums, her mind filled with images from movies, stories from friends, and countless online forums describing screaming, panic, pain, and trauma. The message was clear: birth is something to survive, not something to embrace.

At her 20-week scan, she broke down in tears—not because anything was wrong, but because the anxiety had become too much. The thought of losing control during labour terrified her.

That’s when someone mentioned hypnobirthing.

Skeptical but desperate for a different experience, Emma enrolled in a local course. She learned to reframe birth not as a medical emergency—but as a deeply instinctual, powerful physiological event. She learned how fear triggers adrenaline, which can actually slow labour and increase pain perception. More importantly, she discovered how to shift out of that fear response using breathing, self-hypnosis, and deep relaxation techniques.

🧠 Science confirms what Emma felt.

Studies show that hypnobirthing reduces the perception of pain by altering activity in the brain’s anterior cingulate cortex and thalamus—areas involved in pain processing (Jensen et al., 2007).

Women who use hypnobirthing report significantly lower levels of anxiety during labour and increased feelings of control and satisfaction (Downe et al., 2015).

A 2016 Cochrane Review found that self-hypnosis may reduce the need for pharmacological pain relief and shorten labour (Madden et al., 2016).

By the time Emma’s labour began, she felt something she never thought possible: calm.

She laboured peacefully at home for most of the day, listening to her birth affirmations and visualising her baby’s descent. When she arrived at the birthing centre, she was already 8cm dilated. No screaming. No panic. Just presence. Just breath. Just trust.

Three hours later, her baby was born. Gently. Naturally. And powerfully.

💛 Birth wasn’t something Emma endured. It was something she owned.

✨ Birth is not just about getting the baby out—it’s about how you feel as you become a mother.

If you're pregnant and unsure what birth will bring, know this: you have more power than you think. Hypnobirthing doesn’t promise a perfect birth. It offers a prepared mind, a relaxed body, and a toolkit of calm—so no matter how birth unfolds, you meet it with confidence, and the tools to get out back on track if things don't proceed as you would hope.

Because how you birth matters—not just for your baby, but for you.

🧠 Did You Know Your Baby's Brain Can Be Wired for Stress Before Birth? 🤰

In the final trimester of pregnancy, your baby’s brain is rapidly developing — forming up to 250,000 neurons per minute. But here’s something most people don’t realise: your stress can directly impact how your baby’s nervous system is wired.

📚 Research shows that high maternal stress in late pregnancy can elevate fetal cortisol exposure, shaping a baby's brain toward heightened sensitivity to stress. This can influence emotional regulation, sleep, and even immunity well into childhood and beyond (Sandman et al., 2012; O’Donnell et al., 2013).

And it doesn't just affect baby — stress can also impact your labour. Chronic stress is associated with: 🔹 Increased pain perception
🔹 Longer labours
🔹 Higher rates of medical intervention
🔹 Greater likelihood of postnatal anxiety or depression

But here’s the good news:
💫 You can rewire the experience — for you and your baby.

Through Hypnobirthing, we teach evidence-based tools that activate the parasympathetic nervous system (your body’s natural “rest and digest” state), reduce fear, and support a calm, connected birth.

✨ Our practices include: 🌀 Deep relaxation
💬 Affirmations and reframing
🌬️ Breathing techniques
🧘🏽‍♀️ Guided visualisations and self-hypnosis

These not only help you feel empowered and safe — they also lower your cortisol levels, helping your baby’s brain wire for resilience, trust, and calm.

🌿 Birth can be beautiful, gentle, and transformative — let’s make it that way, together.

Did you know your brain can't always tell the difference between imagination and reality?

Studies using fMRI scans show that when we engage in strong visualisation, the brain activates many of the same neural pathways involved in real sensory experiences — including those associated with pain perception (like the somatosensory cortex, insula, and anterior cingulate cortex).

👶 In childbirth, this means that by deeply visualising a calm, safe, and empowering birthing environment, we can redirect brain activity away from interpreting pain, and instead engage areas involved in focus, calm, and positive emotional states.

This technique, known as guided imagery or visualisation, is a core part of what we teach in Hypnobirthing.

By practising these techniques during pregnancy, you're not just preparing emotionally — you're training your brain to respond differently during birth.

📚 Clinical research supports that: 🔹 Visualisation reduces the intensity of pain signals
🔹 The brain’s pain matrix can be influenced by attention, emotion, and imagery
🔹 Hypnotherapy and mental imagery have been shown to lower cortisol and increase pain tolerance

🌸 Birth doesn’t need to be feared — when you understand how to work with your brain, not against it, you can create a birth experience that feels empowered and in control.

🌿 When Should the Cord Be Clamped? The Hypnobirthing Approach 🌿

In Hypnobirthing, we believe in supporting a baby's gentle, instinctive transition from womb to world. One of the most powerful choices you can make is to delay clamping the umbilical cord until it has finished pulsating — usually between 3 to 10 minutes after birth. ✨

So why wait?

🩸 Up to one-third of your baby’s blood is still in the cord and placenta at birth. Delaying clamping allows that rich blood — full of oxygen, iron, stem cells, and immune support — to return to your baby, just as nature intended.

👶 Short-term benefits include: • Better oxygen levels
• More stable blood pressure
• Higher iron stores
• Reduced risk of infant anemia

🌱 Long-term benefits include: • Stronger immune function
• Better brain development
• Fewer iron deficiencies in the first year

This simple, natural step can make a lasting impact. I like to think of this as, birth with respect — honouring the powerful connection between baby, placenta, and mother, even after Bay has made its arrival.

Often we are in a rush to disconnect and rush that placenta out.

Unless there's a rare medical reason not to, delayed cord clamping supports a calmer, healthier start to life. 💛

🌸 The Power of Upright Birthing 🌸

In Hypnobirthing, we honour the wisdom of the birthing body. One of the most powerful choices a birthing woman can make is to stay upright and mobile during labor.

Why? Because gravity becomes your ally.

When you’re upright—standing, kneeling, squatting, or gently swaying—your baby is encouraged to move down through the birth path with ease. Your pelvis opens naturally, creating more space for baby to move, rotate, and descend. The gentle pull of gravity supports the natural rhythm of your surges, helping each one work with your body, not against it.

✨ Upright positions can:

Shorten the length of labor

Ease pressure on the spine

Increase oxygen to your baby

Reduce the need for interventions

Support a sense of control and calm

In Hypnobirthing, we trust that your body knows how to birth your baby. Movement, breath, and instinct are your guides. Whether you're using a birthing ball, leaning over a bed, or dancing through each surge—your body is doing exactly what it was designed to do.

Trust it.
Support it.
Stay upright. Stay empowered. 💫

✨ Minimising Perineal Tearing in Labour – What You Need to Know ✨

One of the most common concerns for birthing women is perineal tearing. While it can’t always be prevented, there are natural, evidence-based ways to reduce your risk and support your body through a smoother, more empowered birth.

💡 Here are some key tips to help minimise tearing:

🔸 Perineal Massage – Begin from 34 weeks. Regular gentle massage of the perineum can improve elasticity and reduce the risk of tearing by helping the tissue adapt to stretching.

🔸 Warm Compresses – During the final phase of labour, applying a warm cloth to the perineum can increase blood flow, relax the muscles, and reduce tearing.

🔸 Upright or Side-Lying Positions – Birthing in positions that avoid lying flat (like kneeling, hands-and-knees, or side-lying) reduces pressure on the perineum and slows the birth of the baby for more control.

🔸 Breathing Baby Down – Instead of forceful bearing down, allowing your body to gently breathe baby down with each wave helps tissues stretch gradually and naturally.

🔸 Stay Hydrated & Nourished – Well-hydrated skin and good nutrition (especially omega-3s and vitamin C) help maintain skin integrity and support healing.

🔸 Choose Supportive Care – Midwives and birth professionals trained in perineal protection techniques can make a big difference. Their calm, hands-on support during crowning can help reduce trauma and honour your birth preferences.

🌿 Every body and every birth is different, but preparation can make a powerful difference. If you’d like guidance, tools, or hypnobirthing support to prepare for a gentle birth experience, reach out or join one of our upcoming workshops.

The Science of Hypnosis in Birth: Rewiring the Brain for Calm, Confidence & Progression

Imagine your brain as a beautifully complex control center. During labor, your body relies on that center to send the right messages—relax the cervix, reduce fear, release oxytocin. But what happens when fear takes over? The stress response activates, adrenaline rises, and labor can stall.

That’s where hypnosis makes its powerful entrance.

Studies show that hypnosis rewires the brain’s pathways by creating a deep state of calm, allowing the unconscious mind to absorb positive suggestions. Through guided imagery, breathwork, and affirmations, a birthing woman learns to access her parasympathetic nervous system—the "rest and digest" mode. This activates the release of natural pain-relieving endorphins and keeps adrenaline low.

The result?

Shorter labor times

Fewer interventions

Greater satisfaction with the birth experience

Increased confidence and sense of control

Research published in the American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis and BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology confirms that women using hypnosis techniques experience statistically significant improvements in birth outcomes compared to control groups.

The mind leads, and the body follows.

When a birthing woman is calm, safe, and focused, her body progresses with ease and trust. Hypnosis doesn’t just "relax" her—it reprograms fear into empowerment.

What does your perfect birth look like?

Can you picture it—holding your baby for the first time, feeling strong, calm, and empowered?

When you focus on positive birth outcomes, your body responds. Visualising a smooth, safe labour and a joyful first moment with your baby activates calming hormones like oxytocin and endorphins—helping labour progress naturally and peacefully.

In hypnobirthing, we use guided imagery to train the mind and body to work together, making space for trust, confidence, and a birth experience that feels right for you.

So tell me… What would your perfect birth feel like?
