πΈ Hyperplasia of the Breast πΈ
Breast hyperplasia is a condition where there is an overgrowth of the cells lining the milk ducts or lobules in the breast. While it is not cancer, certain types are associated with an increased risk of developing breast cancer.
π©βπ¦° Who is most affected?
It is the most common benign breast condition in women, especially between ages 25β45, and is increasingly seen in younger women.
β οΈ Common Symptoms
βοΈ Cyclical breast pain
βοΈ Breast lumps
βοΈ Worsening premenstrual symptoms
π Types of Hyperplasia & Risk
β’ Usual Ductal Hyperplasia (UDH): Overgrowth of normal-looking duct cells; increases breast cancer risk by ~1.5β2x.
β’ Atypical Hyperplasia (ADH or ALH): Abnormal cell growth; increases breast cancer risk by ~4β5x.
𧩠Possible Causes
β’ Hormonal imbalance (e.g., higher estrogen levels)
β’ Psychological stress
β’ High-fat diet and poor lifestyle habits
β’ Frequent induced abortions or marital stress
β’ Tight bras affecting circulation
β’ Hormone replacement therapy after menopause
