🌟 Book Spotlight 🌟
- My Dog Bigsy By Alison Lester -

🐶 What it’s about…
Join Bigsy, a small but bold dog, as he races through the farm, barking at every animal he sees! From the cows to the chickens to the horses, Bigsy makes his presence known until it’s time for a well-earned rest. With rhythmic, repetitive text and engaging illustrations, this book is a delightful adventure through the Australian countryside.

🐶 Why we like it…
It’s fantastic for developing vocabulary around animals, sounds, and action words. The repetitive structure supports language learning and encourages active participation. It also offers fun opportunities to explore sequencing, animal recognition, and cause and effect. Young readers love to join in with the barking and guessing who Bigsy will meet next! 🐶🚜🐔

📺 Screen Time & Developing Brains

Screen time is a tricky balance, especially for busy parents. As paediatric speech pathologists, we know screen time is often unavoidable. But not all shows are created equal.
👉 In this post, we explore slow-paced shows for toddlers & preschoolers - the kind that are less likely to overwhelm young brains and less likely to disrupt attention and language development.
💡 It’s not about perfection, it’s about making more mindful choices when screens are part of the day.

💙 May is Apraxia Awareness Month 💙
This month is dedicated to raising awareness about Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)—a rare neurological speech disorder—and supporting the incredible children and families affected by it. Many people have never heard of CAS until a diagnosis becomes part of their lives, and we want to help change that.

On May 14th, Apraxia Awarness Day, our PWW team will wear blue in support of CAS awareness. Stay tuned for a special blog post coming later this month, where we’ll dive deeper into what CAS is, how it affects speech development, and what speech therapy looks like.

Together, we can amplify voices that are still finding their way. 💙
