Noah's Ark Inc.

Noah's Ark Inc. Noah's Ark supports families in Victoria, ACT, New South Wales and surrounding areas. They established toy libraries for children with a disability.

In 1971, we started as the Noah’s Ark Toy Library for Handicapped Children, run by a small group of parents of children with a disability. At the time, families were beginning to refuse to put their children with disabilities into institutional care and institutions stopped admitting young children. Noah’s Ark co-founder Annetine Forell, a parent of a child with a disability, as well as co-founder

Mary Glue, saw the need for family support. The service recognised the importance of play in a child’s development and provided a place for families to discuss the challenges of parenting. Today, Noah’s Ark is a not-for-profit community organisation based in Victoria and the ACT, Australia. We offer a range of services and programs that support families who have a child (aged 0-8) with a disability or additional needs. At Noah’s Ark we work closely with children with a disability, their families and the services they participate in. We recognise that parents are experts on their own child and we provide them with information and support that enables them to make informed decisions. We employ more than 220 staff and deliver services to more than 2000 families across Victoria and the ACT. Noah’s Ark works with families, educators and policy-makers.

In Bendigo, NAIDOC Week is celebrated at the annual Family Day in July. Each year the event has grown to include dance, activities, food and more and is attended by around 4000 community members.

On Wednesday, the team provided a sensory station with playdough, Australian animals and magic sand activities. As well as having time to enjoy sharing space and having fun with local families, this event is a connection point for many families to learn about the work Noah’s Ark offers to support their family.

Just wrapped up an inspiring few days at the 2025 Occupational Therapy Australia conference, "Collaborate and Connect," and our minds are buzzing! Here's more from Noah's Ark Practice Coach & Psychologist, Kylie Matusewicz.

"It was an honor to present and also to absorb so many thought-provoking sessions. A recurring theme was the profound impact of collaboration – amongst ourselves, but crucially, with all those we work alongside, emphasising co-designed interventions and impactful advocacy. I was particularly struck by the rich discussions around First Nations Peoples' unique approaches to social-emotional wellbeing and how we can thoughtfully bridge Western and First Nations perspectives.

"We also delved into the exciting possibilities of integrating AI into our practice – recognising the importance of seeing it as a powerful enabler and 'thought partner,' while ensuring it never overshadows the human connection that is foundational to our work and supports best outcomes.

"The conference also provided important reminders – which are especially important in times of systemic disruption and change – of the invaluable work we do, why it matters so much, and what's possible if we're united, if we connect and collaborate. Feeling incredibly grateful and re-energised!"

The Occupational Therapy Australia national conference is being held in Adelaide this week, with the theme ‘Collaborate and Connect’ underscoring the importance of fostering collaboration and building meaningful connections within the occupational therapy community, as well as with other healthcare disciplines and stakeholders.

On Friday 27 June at 11:30am, we’re pleased to be presenting on the topic ‘What do children want from therapy? And how well are we listening?’ The session will investigate the alignment of child agency with contemporary occupational therapy practice and explore factors that contribute to practitioners maintaining child agency practices.

Noah’s Ark Practice Coach & Psychologist Kylie Matusewicz will be speaking about her research into child agency while Danica Smith will add context from an Occupational Therapist’s perspective.

Our Story

In 1971, we started as the Noah’s Ark Toy Library for Handicapped Children, run by a small group of parents of children with a disability. At the time, families were beginning to refuse to put their children with disabilities into institutional care and institutions stopped admitting young children. Noah’s Ark co-founder Annetine Forell, a parent of a child with a disability, as well as co-founder Mary Glue, saw the need for family support. They established toy libraries for children with a disability. The service recognised the importance of play in a child’s development and provided a place for families to discuss the challenges of parenting. Today, Noah’s Ark is a not-for-profit community organisation based in Victoria and the ACT, Australia. We offer a range of services and programs that support families who have a child with a disability or additional needs.

Noah’s Ark provides the best therapy and education for your child with a disability or additional needs. We recognise the very important role that families play in their children’s health and development.

Noah’s Ark currently provides services to children 0 – 8 years of age and will continue to work with clients who have an existing relationship with us until 12 years of age. Children new to Noah’s Ark from the age of 8 and over will be considered based on a prior relationship with Noah’s Ark or a sibling of a current client.
