Today is World Mental Health Day 💚
This year’s theme is “Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies,"" and it reminds us how vital support is during life's most difficult moments.

At NLC Psychology, we’re proud to play our part in building a world where mental health care is accessible to all, especially when it's needed most.

Good advice here from SA Health

In the midst of distressing world or local events, there are many ways to show up for others while still taking care of your own mental health.

Staying informed is important, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of your wellbeing. Taking a break from the 24/7 news cycle doesn’t mean you don’t care.

If news coverage of recent events is causing you to experience more stress, anxiety, or other negative feelings right now, there are strategies that can help support your mental wellbeing.

These can include:
✔️ limiting your exposure to news
✔️ taking breaks from social media to recharge
✔️ making time for self-care
✔️ talking to friends or family.

If you or anyone you know needs support, help is available.

🌿 Living with chronic pain or a long-term health condition can impact your daily life and sense of wellbeing. While psychology can’t remove pain, therapy can help by:
✔️ Shifting unhelpful thought patterns
✔️ Reducing distress
✔️ Supporting you to live more fully

At NLC Psychology, we also work closely with physiotherapists at Move for Better Health, offering collaborative and tailored care for people with conditions such as hypermobility, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and dysautonomia (including POTS).

You don’t have to manage it all alone — support is here. 💙

👉 On R U OK? Day - and every day - let’s remind the people in our lives: “I’m here to hear.”

This year’s theme, “I’m here to hear”, is a gentle reminder that sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is simply listen.

You don’t need the perfect words or all the answers; just being present and showing someone you care can make a real difference. 💛

At NLC Psychology, we see every day how meaningful conversations can support mental health and wellbeing. A check-in, a pause, and an open ear can help someone feel less alone.

😴 Struggling to get a good night's sleep?
You're not alone but the good news is you don’t have to figure it out on your own!

At NLC Psychology, we offer evidence-based support for insomnia and other sleep difficulties.

Dr Neralie Cain, who conducted her PhD in sleep, and Clinical Psychologist, Patrick Carson, are able to help reset your sleep, manage nighttime anxiety, and build healthier habits for lasting rest!

Our approach is practical, supportive, and tailored to you. At NLC Psychology, we offer evidence-based support including CBT-I (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Insomnia) and ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy) where appropriate for our sleep-focused sessions.

Thinking about therapy but not sure what to expect? This is for you!

Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially if you don’t know what to expect.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what your first session at NLC Psychology typically involves:

🛋️ Getting to Know You: We’ll spend some time learning about you, what brought you in, and what you’re hoping to get out of your sessions.

📄 Understanding Your Story: Your psychologist may ask about your background, health, and anything else that might help us understand your unique situation.

🧭 Setting Goals Together: This isn’t just a chat, we’ll also work together to set some gentle goals for your therapy journey.

💬 Ask Anything! There’s no pressure to have it all figured out. Ask as many questions as you need, we’re here to make you feel safe, seen, and supported.

✨ Everyone’s journey looks a little different, but one thing stays the same: you’re in a compassionate space where your wellbeing is our priority.
