My handler’s daughters both have Kidney disease, with the youngest being just 2% off end stage renal failure at 6yo….. please spread awareness and have the organ donor conversation with your loved ones.

Kidney disease impacts 2.7 million Australians each year 🏥

Kidneys clean your blood and filter waste out through your urine. When you have kidney disease, your kidneys don’t function properly and waste gradually builds up in your body.

2.5 million people are unaware they are living with signs of the disease, as you can lose 90% of your kidney function without experiencing any symptoms. There are 5 recognised stages of kidney disease which gradually progress through to the end stages, also known as kidney failure. For people who reach kidney failure, kidney dialysis or a kidney transplant can be the only treatment options available.

There are currently around 14,000 people on dialysis, many who would benefit from a kidney transplant. It takes just one minute to register as an organ donor on the DonateLife website ❤️ - www.donatelife.gov.au/register-donor-today

Calling all veterans

We are currently seeking applications from ADF Veterans who could benefit from a DCD Assistance Dog to help provide support for mood, anxiety and depressive disorders, including PTSD.

The time to process an application varies depending on the Veteran's personal situation, their readiness for an assistance dog, providing all the necessary documentation, and having the right dog available in training to individually match to the Veteran's needs.🐾

If you, or someone you know, could benefit from a DCD Assistance Dog, please visit www.dcdogs.com.au/apply to find out more.

Career Changed Dogs

Not every dog is destined to be a Guide or Assistance dog… and that’s ok!

From time to time, we discover they’re better suited to life as a beloved family pet instead.

These incredible pups, known as “career changed” dogs, have received a level of training and socialisation, but unfortunately may not fit the tough criteria needed to be a working dog.

When this happens, we're then on the lookout for kind-hearted individuals or families that are ready to adopt a special dog into their lives.

Our dogs are:
- Family friendly and social
- Up to date on worming, vaccinations and are desexed
- Suited to a variety of homes and lifestyles

If you’re interested in welcoming one of these special dogs into your home, we’d love to hear from you.

Please email our Guide & Assistance Dogs team for more information and to register your interest >> DogServices@SeeDifferently.org.au

An amazing opportunity for someone who is needing a fully trained PSTD Assistance Dog

Through no fault of his own we find ourselves needing a new placement for Regie.

You may remember at the start of the year Regie was advertised as suitable for an individual with PTSD. Unfortunately due to his handlers medical needs, Regie is needing to move on from what we thought would be his forever home.

We are looking for someone ready to commit! At 2 years old, he has done his time in the raiser program and is deserving of finding his permament person and home.

We feel Regie is best suited to an individual with PTSD or similar as he is a confident dog and due to this can provide a solid presence to individuals who need it. Being a big boofy boy we do feel that an adult or late teen would be best suited. He is friendly around children (he was the youngest dog at Telethon last year and did amazing!!), so having grandchildren or friends children coming over isn't a problem but as a big boy his play can be similarly big!

A home without another dog or a calm older (perhaps authoritative dog) is fine. He was raised in homes with multiple dogs and more so when he was younger but occassionally still just needs monitoring for play (he is only 2 years old, almost)

Regie does come with a price tag. As a not for profit organisation our dogs are priced to match only what has been spent on them during their time with us. This will be disclosed will full transparency to suitable placements and payment plans are an option.

As noted above if you are committed and ready to take on a dog now please reach out (either via private message or email: enquiries@waatdogs.org.au). This will commitment will include at least a 10 week 'trial period', commitment to training and helping Regie settle into his new home.

Today we got to spend some time remembering the servicemen, servicewomen and animals who have dedicated their lives to our defence.

“Lest We Forget”

It was a great opportunity to also spend time with family, especially my not so little brother, Toby, and our adopted brother Neo 💜

My baby sister Brianna is one of those people requiring a transplant… please start a conversation with your loved ones about organ donation, both live and deceased, every moment counts

It’s World Kidney Day! In 2024 in Australia, there were 812 kidney transplants from deceased donors, and 253 kidney transplants from living donors.

We want to thank all donors, donor families, people who have had a transplant and Kidney Health Australia for raising awareness of kidney health.

There are still roughly 14,000 people on dialysis in Australia, many who would benefit from a kidney transplant. Visit donatelife.gov.au to register as an organ donor now, and talk to your family about organ donation

This is just one of the amazing skills these special dogs can perform, and need to do better in recognising these dogs and the important part that they play in keeping participants safe every day.

On the 22nd of November, my handler and I met with Gwen from Good As Gold Dog Training/Canine Life Skills Coaching to do our Public Access test, of course we passed with flying colours and had a great day. Fast forward to today when we received our official Assistance Dog License 🥳

Massive thanks to Gwen for testing us and providing a little extra guidance whilst she was with us, Alpha Lykos K9 Training and Behaviour for all the training they did with us up until our testing time, and mostly to M&M Companion Retrievers without whom I would never have been paired with my handler Terry and mum Juanita George

What a massive week, worked with Dad all week, then on Thursday night I got to kiss a celebrity Brad Williams, birthday shopping for mum on Friday and now at my first WBBL Cricket game at the WACA. Staff and everyone here have been awesome. We even got seats in the front row on the fence, I might even have e a chance of catching a ball
