Torticollis

Does your baby always look to one side?

Torticollis is when a baby has tightness in the neck causing their head to tilt or turn more to one side?

Common signs:
• Prefers feeding on one side
• Difficulty turning head both directions
• Flat spot developing on one side of the head

Gentle chiropractic care focuses on:
• Improving neck mobility
• Supporting muscular balance
• Helping babies move comfortably

Early care can make a big difference for development and head shape.

Book in with Tyla before the end of April and receive $40 off the Initial Consult fee if you mention this torticollis post.

We provide pain relief care for the people who have tried everything else.

Muscle Spotlight: Deep Core muscles

When we talk about the “core,” we’re not just referring to your 6 pack. Your core is made up of the numerous muscles that surround your abdominal cavity.

Your deep core muscles help:
• Stabilise your spine
• Support posture
• Coordinate movement between your upper and lower body

A strong core isn’t about doing endless crunches — it’s about control, coordination, and endurance during everyday movement.

That’s why core training often looks slow, controlled, and very individualised.

Muscle Spotlight: Calf Muscles

Your calves do more than you might think.

They help:
• Absorb force when walking and running
• Support ankle and knee movement
• Assist circulation in the lower legs

Calf tightness or strains are common during summer — especially when activity levels change quickly or recovery is limited.

Building strength and capacity in the calves is just as important as stretching, particularly for long-term resilience.

Muscle Spotlight: Glute Muscles

Your glute muscles play a huge role in supporting your hips, pelvis, and lower back.

When they’re not doing their job efficiently, other areas often pick up the slack — including your lower back, knees, or hamstrings.

Glutes don’t become “weak” overnight. Nor do they “switch off”
They can reduce their contribution for a number of reasons including pain, reduced movement, changes in load or nerve entrapment.

Targeted strengthening and movement retraining can help but it is not always a certain cure to lower back pain. The key is understanding the reason that the muscle is not contributing as it should and that requires assessment and diagnosis.

MUSCLE SPOTLIGHT: UPPER TRAPEZIUS

That tight, achy feeling across your neck and shoulders?
The upper trapezius muscle is often involved.

This muscle helps support your neck and shoulders, especially during posture changes, desk work, stress, and lifting.
It can feel tight when:
• You’ve been sitting at a desk for long periods
• Stress levels are high
• Other muscles aren’t sharing the workload

Stretching can help — but long-term relief usually comes from improving movement patterns and load tolerance, not just “loosening” the muscle.

This February we are going to introduce you to some of our favourite muscles and what we love about them!

Not sure if it’s time to book an appointment?

You may benefit from an assessment if:
• Pain is lingering or getting worse
• Movement feels restricted
• Headaches or stiffness are becoming frequent
• You’re avoiding activities you normally enjoy

You don’t have to wait until things are “really bad” — early care often means easier recovery.

Hot weather doesn’t just affect your energy levels — it can also impact your joints and muscles.

In summer we often see:
• Increased swelling
• Muscle stiffness
• Slower recovery when dehydrated

Simple things like staying hydrated, gentle movement, and pacing your activity can help keep your body feeling comfortable through the warmer months ☀️
