Today we marked R U OK? Day by setting up a booth to share resources and information with our community. It was a chance to highlight the importance of starting conversations, staying connected, and checking in with those around us.

We made a range of R U OK? guides, booklets and tools available so that everyone could feel more confident in asking the question and offering support.

R U OK? Day is a reminder that every conversation counts, and any day is the right day to check in.

Every community has its own way of checking in. Whether it’s sitting down for a yarn, sending a message, or simply asking “you right?”, what matters is staying connected. Ask your mob, your way, and keep the conversation going. Find resources at ruok.org.au/strongertogether.

We are delighted to welcome Dr. Stephen Johanson to Nidjalla Waangan Mia! With his wealth of experience in male health and dedication to serving Aboriginal communities, we are thrilled to have him join our Oseca Team. Here is a small introduction of Dr. Stephen in his own words. 🩵

"Hi, I'm Stephen and I am a GP originally from the UK. I've worked all around this great country over the 8 years since I moved. Most recently I've been working in an Aboriginal medical service on Arrente country in Alice Springs. I like to think I'm very easy to get along with, easy to talk to and I'm a good listener. Whilst I have most recently been in Male Health, I am capable of helping with most things that come through the door no matter how strange or complex. I look forward to seeing you at the clinic or around town!"

Celebrating Our Partnership with Murdoch University – Mandurah Campus

We’re proud to continue our ongoing partnership with Murdoch University’s School of Nursing, providing Stage 6 clinical placement allocations at Nidjalla Waangan Mia.

This placement is a valuable complement to the Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Training students receive in their first year, offering them the unique opportunity to work within an Aboriginal Medical Centre and engage directly with the local Aboriginal community.

A big thank you to Elizabeth and her team at Murdoch for trusting us to supervise and support these future health professionals. 💚

This week, we were pleased to host Sam, who has just completed her one-week placement with us at Nidjalla – thank you for your energy, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn.

🤝 Partnerships like these strengthen our community and shape the next generation of compassionate, culturally-aware healthcare workers.

We welcome Djilba, the season of growth and transformation in the Noongar calendar. As the weather shifts and the land begins to awaken, we celebrate new life, from blooming wildflowers to the arrival of baby animals. Let’s take this time to reflect, nurture, and grow, just as the land does 🌿🌦️

Co-design session at Nidjalla Waangan Mia

On Monday July 14, 2025, we came together at Nidjalla Waangan Mia (NWM) for a co-design session focused on feedback from people with mental health lived experience and carers of people with mental health challenges. Through honest yarning and shared stories, community members spoke from the heart about the real needs and service gaps in our community. Together, we explored not just the challenges—but also the recommendations and pathways forward. It was a space full of respect, strength, and hope.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Oseca Health's incredible NWM staff, especially Uncle George Walley who facilitated the session, our Assertive Outreach Team (Jenni, Ashley, and Matt) and all the community members who joined us, shared so openly, and helped shape the future of support in our region.

These conversations are where change begins—and we’re grateful to walk this journey together 🖤💛❤️
