Co-design session at Nidjalla Waangan Mia

On Monday July 14, 2025, we came together at Nidjalla Waangan Mia (NWM) for a co-design session focused on feedback from people with mental health lived experience and carers of people with mental health challenges. Through honest yarning and shared stories, community members spoke from the heart about the real needs and service gaps in our community. Together, we explored not just the challenges—but also the recommendations and pathways forward. It was a space full of respect, strength, and hope.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Oseca Health's incredible NWM staff, especially Uncle George Walley who facilitated the session, our Assertive Outreach Team (Jenni, Ashley, and Matt) and all the community members who joined us, shared so openly, and helped shape the future of support in our region.

These conversations are where change begins—and we’re grateful to walk this journey together 🖤💛❤️

Bridging Now to Next

This week is a time for all Australians to learn, reflect, and act.
We’re invited to bridge the gap between our shared past and the future we want to create — one built on justice, equity, and the truth of First Nations stories.

🤝 Reconciliation is more than a word — it’s action.
💭 It’s about listening deeply, acknowledging history, and moving forward together.

Let’s use this week to strengthen relationships, challenge ourselves, and commit to walking the path of reconciliation — from now to what comes next.

CEO Statement – National Sorry Day

Today, on National Sorry Day, Oseca Health acknowledges the enduring pain and trauma experienced by the Stolen Generations, and the broader impact of past government policies on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We pay our respects to the Elders – past and present – and to the families and communities who continue to carry the burden of these injustices. We honour your resilience, your stories, and your deep cultural connection to this land.

At Oseca, reconciliation is more than a commitment – it is woven into the care we deliver every day. Through our Aboriginal health services, including the Assertive Outreach Team, Nidjalla Waangan Mia, and Down South Aboriginal Health, we work together with community to provide culturally safe, respectful, and accessible care.

These programs reflect our belief that health and wellbeing must be guided by community voices, cultural knowledge, and meaningful partnerships.

On this day of reflection, we stand with First Nations peoples in truth-telling, healing, and justice. We encourage all our staff and community to take the time to listen, learn, and walk forward together – with respect, empathy, and purpose.

Cultural Training with Uncle George Walley in Mandjoogoordap 🌿

Last week, our Oseca team had the privilege of taking part in our second deeply meaningful cultural training session with Uncle George on Bindjareb Boodja — one of several sessions our team is experiencing in small groups over the coming weeks.

It was a profound opportunity to connect — not just with each other, but with the land we are a part of. Uncle George guided us through stories, traditions, and truths that opened our eyes to the history and spirit of this place.

As part of the session, we walked together near the Riverside Gardens Reserve, where Uncle George introduced us to the land. We paused to reflect, listen, and offer a token of respect and gratitude — a small but powerful moment that grounded us all. We learnt about the area’s cultural significance and history, and left with more than just knowledge.

At the end of the session, we each made small bracelets out of blades of grass — a simple, beautiful reminder of the connection we now carry with us.

Grateful for the teachings, the conversations, and the shared experience. ✨
