Incredibly informative about the real life experiences of someone suffering covert domestic violence/abuse and coercive control. The signs can be so subtle but if they’re there, it’s important to be aware.

Did you know we offer EMDR therapy at our Wynnum practice?

How EMDR Works:
At the core of EMDR therapy is the idea that trauma can get “stuck” in the brain and disrupt its natural processing mechanisms. When a person experiences trauma, the brain struggles to integrate the memory in a healthy way. As a result, the memory can remain vivid and emotionally charged, causing ongoing distress.

During EMDR, the therapist helps the individual access traumatic memories while simultaneously guiding them through bilateral stimulation (usually through eye movements, but sometimes through tapping or auditory cues). This process is believed to help the brain reprocess the traumatic event and reduce its emotional charge. Essentially, EMDR helps “unlock” the memory, allowing the brain to process it properly and integrate it in a healthier way.

Who Can Benefit from EMDR Therapy?
EMDR therapy is suitable for anyone who has experienced trauma, whether recently or in the past. It is particularly beneficial for individuals with PTSD, but it can also help those dealing with anxiety, depression, addiction, and phobias. People who have experienced various forms of trauma, such as abuse, accidents, natural disasters, or combat exposure, can find significant relief through EMDR therapy.

Every year on 10 September, communities, organisations and governments across Australia and around the globe come together to mark World Su***de Prevention Day. It is a time to reflect, connect, and recommit to our shared goal of preventing su***de and spreading hope.

Led by the International Association for Su***de Prevention (IASP) and the World Health Organization, this year’s theme, ‘Changing the Narrative on Su***de’, challenges us to transform how we think and talk about su***de.

It’s a call to shift from silence and stigma to openness, empathy and action, to ensure those who are struggling feel heard, supported, and connected. Together, we can help create a future where more lives are saved and more stories are shared.

In Australia, su***de remains the leading cause of death among people aged 15–44. Every year, more than 3,000 Australians die by su***de, and over 55,000 make an attempt. These are not just numbers, they are families, friends, colleagues and communities.
