Our classes and treatments try to increase this precious energy in all of us leading to transformation of our health, vitality and wisdom. Qi Health & Yoga was opened in 2001 and recently brought by Oriana Chee, a mother of 3 children who has dedicated the last 20 years into teaching Pilates, fitness and plant based nutritional support. "You are as young as your spine is flexible." by Joseph Pilates

Joseph Pilates believed that the health of the spine was directly linked to overall vitality and youthfulness. Here’s a deeper look:

1. Spinal Health = Overall Health: The spine houses and protects the central nervous system (the spinal cord), which is the body's communication highway between the brain and every other part of the body. A stiff, misaligned spine can impede nerve function, leading to pain, reduced organ function, and a general feeling of being "old."
2. Flexibility vs. Rigidity: Youth is often associated with suppleness, ease of movement, and adaptability. As people age, they often become more rigid, both physically and mentally. Pilates saw a direct correlation: a flexible spine allows for a greater range of motion, which keeps the body agile and feeling young.
3. The Core Connection: A strong, flexible spine is supported by a strong "Powerhouse" (the core muscles of the abdomen, lower back, and glutes). When the core is strong, it properly supports the spine, improving posture, preventing back pain, and creating an appearance of confidence and vitality.
4. A Metaphor for Life: On a deeper level, the quote can be seen as a metaphor. A flexible spine represents a flexible mind—openness to new experiences, adaptability to change, and resilience. Pilates believed physical health was inseparable from mental and spiritual well-being.

In essence, Joseph Pilates wasn't just talking about the number of years you've lived. He was defining youth as a state of physical freedom, strength, and vitality—all of which, he argued, are founded upon a healthy, flexible, and well-supported spine.
