Due to extreme heat this week, all Shining Star services will follow our hot weather policy. All outdoor and social shifts will be moved indoors. No driving is allowed unless it’s for an appointment that can’t be rescheduled. Please stay hydrated and check in on elderly or vulnerable family and friends. Bring pets indoors if possible; if not, help them cool down with water pools or misters for birds and chickens. Leaving a bowl of water outside for local wildlife is always appreciated too.

Mental health support is available over the festive season.

If you or someone you know needs mental health support, the Medicare Mental Health Centre in Mount Barker remains open throughout the festive season, including weekends and public holidays.
This free, walk-in mental health service provides caring, non-judgmental support for people aged 16 and over. You don’t need an appointment or referral.

We are open:
• 9am–7pm, Monday to Wednesday
• 9am–9pm, Thursday and Friday
• 12pm–8pm, Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays

Unit 9, 2–4 Cameron Road, Mount Barker

As the Christmas season approaches, some of our staff will be taking a well-deserved break. All booked services will continue as scheduled. Please allow extra time for responses, as phones and emails will be checked periodically during this period, which may cause slight delays. Our office will be closed from December 22nd to January 5th. Just a friendly reminder, we are not an on-call service. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

The donation table set up in front of our office was inspired by one of our clients, Miss C and her support worker Cheryl. Miss C wanted to give her clothes and a few odds and ends to people who could use a little extra help. The staff loved the idea and joined in by adding their own donations. Miss C and everyone at Shining Star hope it has made a difference, and we appreciate your support for her idea. The table is now empty!
All of us at Shining Star Support Services wish the community a happy and safe Christmas, and thank you for your support throughout the year.

Mandatory registration for supported independent living (SIL) and platform providers will start on 1 July 2026.

This change will strengthen oversight and ensure providers are accountable for meeting quality and safety standards. Registered providers must pass audits, suitability assessments, and comply with strict worker screening and incident reporting requirements.

This announcement follows extensive consultation and aligns with recommendations from the NDIS Review, Disability Royal Commission, NDIS Provider and Worker Registration Taskforce, and the NDIS Commission’s Own Motion Inquiries.

We will share guidance on transition arrangements in early 2026, giving providers time to prepare while maintaining continuity of support.
