Welcome back to Mannum Dr James Fowler 🩺

This week, the final term of Road to Rural Interns for 2025 commenced their rural rotations! 🩺

For interns based in metropolitan hospitals, the Road to Rural (R2R) Intern program is a valuable rural generalist experience early in their careers where they are an integral part of the rural health team and have a genuine opportunity to experience life in a rural community.

Before leaving for country, Interns attend an orientation session at RDWA run by RDWA EDMS, Dr Tim Kelly, and Dr Lisa Koo. This session prepares them for their 10-week rotation with a refresher on practical skills for general practice, an overview of what to expect in the local practice, and information about the support available to them during the term.

We wish them a great rural generalist experience!

We are excited to announce that another specialist will begin consulting on a regular basis at Mannum Medical.
From December 10 we welcome Dr Alex Choo from Acacia-Fiori Geriatrics. With short wait times for appointments book an appointment with a doctor to get a referral to see them.

We’re moving to Bulk Billing — From 1 November 2025

From today, we will transition to bulk billing for “standard GP visits” for all patients with a current and up-to-date Medicare card — including face-to-face & phone visits.

Please note:
Some services are not covered under this Medicare initiative and will continue to attract private fees. These include (but are not limited to):
• Minor surgical procedures
• Medicals (e.g. pre-employment, driver’s licence, insurance)
• Sutures, wound care, and other treatment room procedures
• Paperwork or reports not funded by Medicare

Our team will let you know if any out-of-pocket fees apply before your appointment.

A note on sustainability
As a small community practice, we remain at the mercy of government Medicare rebates, keeping pace with the ongoing cost of running a healthcare business. While we’re proud to support this initiative and make care more accessible, we may need to review this model in the future if it becomes financially unsustainable.

We understand that these billing changes can be confusing, and we’re here to help. Our team will do their best to explain any fees, and we’ll keep our posts and updates as clear as possible for ease of understanding.

Please ensure your Medicare details are correct and up to date before your next visit.
