HAPPY 51st ANNIVERSARY TO ALL CIVIL CELEBRANTS.
The very first Civil Celebrant appointed, Lois D'Arcy, (509) was a 26-year-old mother of two babies and a teacher on the Gold Coast, She was appointed by the reformist Attorney-General Lionel Murphy on Thursday 19th July 1973 starting the Civil Celebrant Program. Now around 80% of all marriages in Australia are performed by Civil Celebrants of which I am one.
The program inspired other countries including the UK, USA, and New Zealand.
