FYI, Elf said he'd only help with this post if we promised to make him a movie star. đ„
This was as close as we could get. đ€
Food is a big part of celebrations at this time of yearâall the BBQs, cheese platters and sweet treats. Yum! đ€€
Your risk of food poisoning is higher during the festive season because:
> most home kitchens donât have enough space to safely store large amounts of food.
> people often bring food to share, and it may be left out for hours or not reheated properly.
> food prep often starts early, which can overload fridges and freezers.
> some cold foods (like seafood or desserts) arenât always handled or chilled as quickly as they should be.
> cooking and preparation can be rushed, so hygiene and cleaning are sometimes missed.
Germs (like Salmonella and E. coli) grow quickly on food stored between 5°C and 60°C. To help prevent food poisoning, cold foods must stay cold, and hot foods must stay hot.
Here's our star, Elf on the (fridge) shelfâand friendsâwith some festive food safety tips! đ
Food poisoning can be very serious especially for young children, the elderly, pregnant people and for anyone with a weak immune system. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach cramps, fever and headaches.
If you ever have any food poisoning symptoms, see your healthcare provider or call 13HEALTH for advice. đ±
