At Mind-Ed, one of our most important roles is being a connector.

Our community is rich with people, services, volunteers, and organisations doing incredible work. But support only works when people know it exists, understand how to access it, and feel safe reaching out. That is where connection, promotion, and local awareness really matter.

We spend a lot of time amplifying local services, sharing what is available, and helping make pathways to support clearer and less overwhelming. Whether it is through community spotlights, training, events, or advocacy, our focus is on strengthening the links between people and the help around them.

After a year of significant growth in 2025, we are delighted to share that Mind-Ed will be expanding our work even further. In the year ahead we will be delivering more local training and education across mental health, youth wellbeing, family and domestic violence, and related areas. These sessions are designed to be practical, accessible, and grounded in the realities of our region.

Alongside this, we will continue to action local and national advocacy that reflects the voices and needs of the Augusta-Margaret River region. We are committed to strengthening partnerships with community groups, services, schools, and organisations so that our work remains collaborative, responsive, and deeply connected to place.

Mental health is not one organisation’s responsibility. It is a shared effort built on trust, visibility, and community support. We are proud to walk alongside those already doing the work and to keep building a region where support is easier to find and no one feels alone.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us.

Last year, we were proud to run Accidental Counsellor in partnership with the Lions Shed, and we still feel the ripple effects of that day.

The Lions Shed volunteers are the kind of people who quietly hold this community together. They show up week after week, offering their time, skills, stories, cups of tea, and steady presence to anyone who walks through the door. For many people, these everyday interactions become moments of trust, care, and connection.

Accidental Counsellor was about recognising something these volunteers already do so naturally. Listening. Noticing. Being there. It was about giving language, confidence, and simple tools to support someone through a tough conversation, without pressure to fix or solve.

To the Lions Shed volunteers, thank you for the work you do for our local community.

Your generosity, warmth, and commitment create spaces where people feel seen, welcome, and supported. We are so grateful to work alongside you and to learn from the way you care for others.

Mind-Ed promotes mental health and community wellbeing by connecting people to trusted support, empowering individuals through preventative education, and strengthening local networks through advocacy and collaboration.
We work alongside community groups, services, and volunteers to make support easier to find, conversations easier to have, and care more accessible for everyone.

The Mental Health Commission is developing the WA Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs Strategy 2025–2030, a statewide plan guiding how mental health and AOD support will evolve over the next five years.

The Strategy outlines five key pillars shaping the future of care in WA:

• Wellbeing for everybody
• Community-based support
• Equitable access to services
• Specialised and acute care
• Strong, person-centred systems

For our region, this means clearer pathways, stronger collaboration, and better access to the right support at the right time.

Mind-Ed will continue to share statewide strategic updates to help our community stay informed and connected.

Collaboration is our strongest tool, and understanding statewide priorities helps ensure our community’s young people and families are seen, heard, and supported at every stage.

Key Local Services & Contacts:

• CAMHS / ICAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service)
Bunbury Clinic (servicing the South West): (08) 9722 4300

• South West Community Alcohol & Drug Service (SWCADS)

• Here For You – WA Mental Health & AOD Support Line

The ICAHMS (Infant, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) meeting brought together local schools, health services, frontline workers, and not-for-profits to talk openly about the needs of our children and young people.

Gatherings like this build the collaboration our region relies on, sharing knowledge, identifying gaps, and making it easier for families to be supported early.

Collaboration is our strongest tool, and meetings like this help ensure our community’s young people are seen, heard, and supported at every stage.

26/12/2025

The State Disability Strategy 2020–2030 is Western Australia’s long-term commitment to building a community where everyone belongs, participates, and lives well.

Launched on 3 December 2020, the Strategy outlines how WA will protect, uphold, and advance the rights of more than 511,500 Western Australians with disability. It’s supported by rolling Action Plans that are reviewed every two years to make sure the work stays relevant, responsive, and genuinely community-led.

The Strategy is built around four pillars that shape what an inclusive community looks like:

✨ Participate & Contribute – removing barriers so people with disability can take part in local life, employment, education, and community decision-making.
✨ Inclusive Communities – designing environments, attitudes, and systems that welcome everyone.
✨ Living Well – ensuring access to health, wellbeing, and quality-of-life supports.
✨ Rights & Equity – strengthening protections, reducing discrimination, and upholding human rights.

Why does this matter nationally?

Because strategies like this set the benchmark. They influence policy, access, inclusion, and funding across Australia, and they highlight what local communities can do to lead meaningful change. When we centre lived experience, listen deeply, and remove systemic barriers, we create stronger, more compassionate communities for all.

Mind-Ed proudly supports initiatives grounded in prevention, empowerment, and human rights. We champion a future where everybody, regardless of disability, has clear pathways to connection, support, and opportunity.

If you’d like to explore the Strategy or its Action Plans, they’re publicly available via WA Government.

Here's to a WA (and an Australia) where inclusion isn’t an afterthought—it's the foundation of community.

As 2025 comes to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect on the year that has been, and to thank our incredible Augusta–Margaret River community for walking alongside us.

This year, Mind-Ed continued its mission to make mental health support clearer, more visible, and easier to access for everyone in our region. Together, we’ve:

✨ Spotlighted Local Services

From headspace, Soupie, The Pantry, RRR Network, Osceca, Margaret River Community Centre and many more, we’ve shared the work of the dedicated organisations that keep our community supported and connected.

✨ Delivered Training & Workshops

Accidental Counsellor, AOD awareness, su***de prevention, parenting, youth wellbeing, inclusion and diversity, mental health & assist, we’ve brought evidence-based, preventative education to community groups, schools, services and workplaces.

✨ Strengthened Community Connections

We’ve amplified local initiatives, partnered with frontline services, promoted vital events, and continued to advocate for mental health visibility across the region.

And this is only the beginning.

🌱 Looking Ahead to 2026

We have more training, more spotlights of our wonderful local services, and more community awareness and mental health promotion planned for the year ahead. Supporting our region is at the heart of everything we do, and we can’t wait to build on this momentum.
