At its core, yoga is a somatic practice that teaches us to listen to our body’s intelligence. Through this deep physical awareness, we begin to recognise patterns in how we communicate with ourselves and process our emotions.

This mind-body connection (the psychosomatic relationship) becomes especially clear when we confront injury. These challenging moments often reveal physical patterns and the deeper dialogue we maintain with ourselves.

Through conscious movement and breath, we create space to truly feel our emotions. Sometimes, an injury provides the pause we need, allowing us to listen more deeply to what our body is expressing.

The way we communicate with ourselves matters. When we approach our practice and healing with compassion rather than judgment, we open doors to deeper understanding and genuine healing - both on and off the mat.

What has your practice taught you about listening to your body? And if you could trade not having the injury for what you learned by having it, would you?!

Bhakti Yoga, the path of devotion, invites us to experience unconditional and inseparable love through the spiritual practice of the heart and feeling. ❤️

Music offers one of the most natural ways to explore Bhakti Yoga, creating universal connection and joy through song.

In Kirtan, we share this experience through a call-and-response chanting of mantras. The leader (Kirtanka) sings a line, and the group responds, building a beautiful expression of Bhakti Yoga through sound and community meditation (in a fun and easy way).

Join us for a special evening of Kirtan with the Bhakti Babas from Perth at The Shala on Saturday, May 29th, from 6 to 8 p.m. Stay for snacks, chai, and good conversation afterwards.

In Kirtan, everyone is welcome to come along and listen, sing, dance, and be joyful—no singing skills needed!

We see what we focus on.

Just as Drsti or gaze point guides our focus to our inner world (pratyahara) during practice, how we focus on the outer world shapes our experience of it.

The 5 Kleshas –afflictions or obstacles– teach us that mental suffering arises from misunderstanding reality and our true selves (Avidya).

That when we get fixed in our own opinions, we suffer through egoism or attachment to I-ness (Asmita).

And if we think solving our problems means controlling the world around us - holding onto what we want (Raga, attachment) and pushing away what we don’t (Dvesha, aversion) - we’re pinning our happiness on an impossible level of control.

For the mind to experience freedom (Moksha), we must learn to hold opposing concepts and opinions simultaneously. It’s about embracing the full expression of being human while seeing the bigger picture.

To let go of our grasping to life (Abhinivesha) we have to trust the flow of its river.

A dip in the healing waters of the Ganga is thought to help with spiritual liberation, but I also love deep chats over coffee. ☕️ 🙌🏻

The Shala classes are just one way we can explore yoga together.

🧡 In our recent workshop series, we explored the Koshas, or ‘bodies’, discovering yoga beyond the physical. We delved into body reading, fascia, and adjusting while connecting with the senses of the subtle body and pranayama.

These sessions opened beautiful discussions about the casual body, energy, soul and consciousness, deepening our understanding of self.

🧡 Through private classes, I work closely with students navigating injuries or mobility challenges, providing the individual attention needed to support their unique journey.

🧡 Mentoring offers a personal, supportive space where teachers can integrate their understanding and refine hands-on assists. Students discover deeper aspects of yoga, taking the benefits of practice and the wisdom of yoga beyond the mat into their everyday lives.

Yoga offers us many tools for growth and understanding, and I’m passionate about helping others use it to its full potential.

My job is to help people bring themselves into balance.

Finding balance in yoga isn’t just about touching your toes or mastering challenging poses. Sometimes, it’s about recognising when flexibility needs to be balanced with stability.

Many people are drawn to yoga because they’re naturally bendy - and who hasn’t heard “you can never be too flexible”?

However, hypermobility in joints brings its own challenges. Those wonderfully mobile joints can face long-term issues without proper support and awareness.

Working with hypermobile students is about finding middle ground. It’s wonderful to see students learn how to access a wider (rather than deeper) range of movement. The focus shifts to strengthening joints, developing body awareness through alignment, and discovering stability through bandha and balance.

The results? Often those niggling neck or ankle pains fade away, and tired muscles finally get a chance to release. True flexibility comes with the wisdom to know when to strengthen and when to soften.

Would you like to know more about hypermobility? DM me for resources and information 🙏
