I don’t just teach yoga. I’ve got a few other interests too. On Friday I played my first real Dj set, sharing a long-time love with a very fun crowd.
Before yoga, there was techno! 😎
As a teenager, back in the days of free parties and warehouse raves in the UK, I found an alternative culture that embraced diversity and a little rebellion.
Dancing gave me a feeling of connection, to myself and others and something bigger. At 16, I didn’t know what I was seeking but I knew the feeling.
Following that same thread led me to Ashtanga yoga and later to non-dual Śaiva Ta**ra. An understanding that consciousness moves through the body, as both shadows and light, all our aspects embraced as part of our true nature.
Ashtanga is a very real practice, loved by truth seekers and rebels too, there’s no bypassing yourself. Everything is met, balanced and embodied.
Dancing feels the same to me. The dark, heavy bass makes space for all our feelings and the melodies bring us into joy. Life is meant to be fun!
Last year my daughter taught me how to mix (quietly fulfilling my 16-year-old self’s dream of playing techno) I never thought I’d actually get to share that — especially through some big speakers!
Thanks to the friends who nudged me way out of my comfort zone. I’m not sure I’ve ever been more nervous! 🤩
