It’s Back to School for 2026!

Whether this week brings excitement, tears of joy and pride, that deep exhale of “we didn’t know if we’d make it to this day,” anxiety, or sadness… we see you.

We see the kids who run through the gates without looking back, and we see those who need gentle, individualised supports to even get close. We see the children who move differently, communicate differently, eat differently and experience the world in their own unique way.

We see the kids who are eager and ready, and those whose nervous systems are screaming “school can’t” before the uniform is even on.

We see the parents. The years of love, advocacy, and showing up, over and over again, to reach this milestone. Whether it’s the first day of kindy, a new year level, the leap to high school, or simply another attempt at a journey that’s been anything but straightforward.

Our More Than Able team has been right there with many of you, working towards this moment in sessions. Practising the skills, building the confidence, problem-solving the barriers, and cheering on every small win. We’re invested in your kids, and we’re invested in you.

Drop-off this week might fill your heart or break it a little. Maybe both.

Whatever “progress” looks like for your child, we celebrate it. And we’re with you. 💛

Our team will officially clock off today to recharge, eat too much, and probably talk about work anyway.

We’re closed from 3pm today (1pm for our WA families) and back on deck 5th January 2026.

We wrapped up our week with a little in-house professional development all about PDA.

Those tiny faces on the screen are some of the smartest, most engaging and empathetic humans on the planet. Sharing knowledge about a neurodevelopmental profile we see so often in clinic with these brilliant clinicians learning and teaching together, was a lovely end to a busy week!

Why I Love OT: I love being able to help kids of all ages grow and thrive into their unique personalities. There’s nothing more rewarding than supporting families on their journey to understand how their child’s brain and body work best, and watching those “aha moments” unfold.

OT in Action for Me: OT in action looks like FUN! We’re always tackling hard things that challenge us and help us learn, but it’s wrapped up in play, laughter, and creativity. Because when kids are having fun, that’s when the real magic happens, that’s when growth becomes natural and learning sticks.

This is Jamine, MTA’s OT boss, and self appointed Bubble Sheriff. She had a few thoughts about being an OT this OTWeek:

Why I love being an OT: I love each and every one of the babies and kids I get to work with; seeing their potential, and always learning to understand and empathise with how they experience life. I love working with them to accept and celebrate their individual brain and body and help them achieve goals in their unique way. This role is truly a calling, and I can’t imagine a better way to spend my life than serving, advocating for, and supporting kids and families in the disability space.

OT in Action is: A never ending journey of learning, creative thinking, problem solving, and partnering with families to do a journey as a team. As OTs, we are exceptional at overcoming obstacles with our clients. So parent education, hands on therapy, and education with kids themselves is such an important part of what OT in action looks like to me.

Just moved to Perth - paediatric OT available to visit children in Perth's Western suburbs supporting children 0-18 years.

More Than Able Therapy's paediatric occupational therapist, Alex Fitzgerald, has just relocated from Queensland to Perth and is offering mobile paediatric OT services to Perth families.

Alex is thoughtful, bright and passionate about affecting positive change in the lives of her little clients.

She brings a neuroaffirming approach to her work with autistic and ADHD children, ensuring each child feels understood, celebrated, and supported.

Alex also brings years of experience in supporting children with complex disability including cerebral palsy, rare, and genetic conditions.

Outside of work, Alex loves the beach, is a former competitive swimmer, lives for ramen and coffee and is a self-confessed astronomy-nerd.
