It has been an absolute pleasure looking after the women’s Australian Army Rugby Union team here at TLC Recovery this week. On the back of a gruelling set of recent games, challenging training sessions here on the Coast and an upcoming series of games in Brisbane, recovery was definitely in need for these inspiring and hard-working women! 🦵🔥❄️

We’ve been delighted to provide compression therapy, sauna and magnesium plunge pools to help their recovery and performance 💪🏽

It will be a bittersweet goodbye to our incredible members Wayne and Liza tomorrow, as they set off on a new adventure and life chapter up north. As two of our most consistent and loved members, Wayne and Liza have been an integral part of the TLC community for more than 5 years. It’s safe to say that - if you’ve been to TLC more than once or twice - you’ve had the privilege of plunging in the pools with Wayne at some point!

Not only are Wayne and Liza incredible humans, but they are huge proponents of contrast therapy and have witnessed first hand the enormous benefits of hot and cold water exposure.

To say they will be missed is an understatement.

5 REASONS TO COLD PLUNGE IN COLD WEATHER! ❄️💧🌬

Cold weather = warm blanket + hot drink + … cold plunge?

Autumn is already bringing cooler weather, and it’s admittedly a season where cold plunges aren’t the first thing to come to mind. However, chilly weather is a GREAT time for cold plunge, and might even make weathering the cold that much easier (along with a handful of other benefits)!

So, what exactly are the tops benefits of cold plunging during cold weather?

1. Boost immunity: Cold water exposure creates an “immunostimulant” effect, meaning it stimulates your body’s immune response. It also triggers your lymphatic system to start pumping, eliminating waste and toxins from the body. In turn, white blood cell count gets boosted and your immune response is improved.

2. Cold plunge is great for your skin in winter: Cold plunge can help improve blood flow to your skin all over giving you fresh, glowing, healthier-looking skin.

3. Cold plunge can help with seasonal depression: Cold water immersion has also been shown to help with one’s mental health including seasonal depression that often occurs with the change into the winter season by boosting the production of norepinephrine which is important because low levels of this hormone and neurotransmitter have been linked to depression and poor mental health.

4. Build resilience to cold: Each time you take the plunge into a cold plunge and brave the cold, you’re training your body and mind to be resilient and handle the “stress” of the cold on your body and other life stressors too. Through a consistent cold plunge routine, your body learns to quickly adapt to the cold temperature and transfers that resistance and adaptability to other cold stressors like chilly winter weather.

5. Increase energy levels: Through a process called cold thermogenesis, cold water stimulates the nerve endings in the skin. As a result, this increases oxygen levels, heart rate and respiration rate, leading to increased energy levels and alertness in the human body, as well as better overall cardiac function.
