Due to a huge number of online requests from parents about their child that snores or mouth breathes I have written my third book. It is called Sleep disordered breathing: A parent’s guide

I believe it will empower parents to seek the help their children need. I hope it may be a useful resource for health care professionals too, to explain to parents why SDB is an issue, why we have abandoned the idea of “letting them outgrow it”, and why they need their children ideally seen and treatment commenced within 6 months of symptoms becoming evident.

Tongue toes and jaw growth
Despite every bit of evidence I have seen showing tongue ties are related to an elongated lower jaw, there is still a persistent belief it causes a short jaw. This just does not seem to be the case and here is yet another paper showing exactly what the other research has shown. The other interesting finding was the rate of malocclusions was twice that of those with a tongue toe versus those without. This is a novel finding worthy of further research too.

This work supports the hypothesis that relates class III malocclusion with a short lingual frenulum.

Current study analyses issues with breastfeeding. Dental practitioners and pediatricians should be familiar with this topic, as early and timely minimal invasive surgical intervention has a significant impact for better comfort of the mothers and continuation of breastfeeding.
