Debra-Ann Tanne (Senior Speech Pathologist and Practice Manager)
Debra-Ann Tanne is a qualified Speech Pathologist and Audiologist. She has been a long term member of Speech Pathology Australia. She completed her Bachelor of Speech and Hearing Therapy with Honours at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa. Debbie had practiced for nine years before immigrating to Australia in 1999. After moving, Debbie then founded ‘Debra-Ann Tanne Speech Pathology & Occupational Therapy Clinic’ in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney. The practice now services out of Maroubra with options for assessment and therapy in the clinic, in schools, in homes and through community services. Debbie works with adults, children and geriatrics with a range of communication and swallowing impairments. She has extensive Medico Legal rehabilitation experience in hospital. Debbie is passionate about sharing the knowledge she has required over the years through her clinical work with other professionals through talks, in service training programs, creating practical manuals and in supervising speech pathology students. Debbie’s passion is effective communication and sharing both knowledge and skill!
Tanya Kaye (Specialised Teacher)
Tanya Kaye is a qualified and highly experienced K-6 and Special Education teacher. She has a Bachelor of Education and Special Education from the University of Technology Sydney. Tanya has over 11 years experience working in the public and private school systems, both in Australia and London. She also spent some time in Ghana working in the local rural school, teaching in the classrooms as well as mentoring and supporting the teachers with lessons and resource ideas.
Over the last three years, Tanya has worked with a range of children in a 1:1 setting and has enjoyed the opportunity to be more individualised and adaptive in her instruction. She believes this helps foster positive learning environments and optimises student achievement. Tanya is also passionate about redefining the way we teach; moving away from formalised instruction and more towards facilitators/guides. It is her firm conviction that in order for students to construct knowledge, they need the opportunity to discover for themselves and practice skills in authentic situations. Tanya is a committed educator who aspired to provide lessons that support risk taking and invite a sharing of ideas.
Tanya sees each child as a unique individual who requires a secure, caring and stimulating atmosphere to grow and learn. She is very excited to be part of the dynamic team at this practice where the multi disciplinary approach to learning is nurtured.
Julia Burg (Occupational Therapist)
Julia is an occupational therapist from South Africa who is passionate about working with children and their families. She completed a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy in 2009, and a Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy in 2016, at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa. She has also conducted research on the initial stages of development of a self-care assessment tool, for children with cerebral palsy living in resource-constrained areas of South Africa.
Julia has worked within a range of paediatric settings, including an acute tertiary hospital, private practice and Not-for-profit Community settings within South Africa and private practice settings in Australia. Julia has worked with children with a range of challenges and/or diagnoses including developmental delay, cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury, various neurological and genetic disorders, spinal cord injuries, intellectual disability, burns, cancers, Down syndrome, AHDH/ADD, Autism Spectrum disorder, handwriting challenges, sensory processing and praxis challenges as well as other challenges, disorders and syndromes. Julia loves learning and has completed a variety of post-graduate courses in Neurodevelopmental Therapy (foundation and advanced courses), Sensory Integration, Therapeutic Listening Program, Kinesiotaping and DIR/Floortime.
Julia is passionate about working closely with families and other members of the multi-disciplinary team in order to set and achieve appropriate goals in order to help children achieve their potential.
Katherine Lam (Speech Pathologist)
Katherine’s passion for helping others and empowering individuals to realise their potential led her to pursue a career in Speech Pathology. She completed the Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology) at the University of Sydney.
Katherine has experience working in acute hospital, community and school settings. Since graduating, she has worked as a Speech Pathologist in the private and not-for-profit sector. Katherine currently consults as a Speech Pathologist in a number of aged care facilities across Sydney where she provides services to residents, including those with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties as a result of a neurological event (e.g. stroke) or degenerative disease (e.g. Parkinson’s Disease, Dementia), as well as those in palliative care. Katherine was also previously an Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) Key Worker at SDN Family and Children Services where she worked closely with families and had direct experience with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Katherine is a motivated Speech Pathologist who believes in a collaborative, person-centered approach. She is passionate about working with families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and has a keen interest in the areas of speech sound disorders, stuttering, early intervention, feeding and dysphagia.
Zhi Ying Low (Speech Pathologist)
Ying has completed the Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology) in the University of Sydney. Making a positive impact on others brings her joy, and forms the core purpose of her work.
Ying has experience working with children in schools, clinics, child care centers and client homes. She has also worked with adults in hospitals and community clinics. With these experiences, she is familiar in working closely with teachers, health professionals, social workers and families, to provide holistic and personalised care to every client. She is also highly interested in the areas of speech sound disorders, early intervention, stuttering, dysarthria, apraxia, dysphagia and aphasia.
Ying believes in being inclusive and respectful to all individuals, regardless of their cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Born and raised in Malaysia, she grew up in a multicultural background and has learnt several languages (with English as her first language). She hopes to contribute her knowledge, skills and personality, to make Speech Pathology services more unique and effective for all.
Sophie Newcombe (Speech Pathologist)
Sophie is a passionate and dedicated speech pathologist, interested in empowering individuals to reach their communication goals. She completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (Speech Pathology) from The University of Sydney.
Sophie has provided speech pathology services across various settings including private practice, preschools, schools and in individual’s homes. She has experience and a keen interest in the areas of early language development and communication, speech sound disorders, literacy and multi-modal communication.
She has developed skill in working with populations of individuals including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), cognitive and intellectual disability and cerebral palsy. Sophie has also previously volunteered as a Community Relations Worker within a stroke support group at The Sutherland Hospital.
Sophie is committed to providing family and person centred services as well as evidence-based assessment and intervention. She continually strives to ensure that therapy is functional, motivating and engaging in order to facilitate positive client outcomes.
Alexander Drake (Occupational Therapist)
Alexander is an enthusiastic, dedicated occupational therapist, and he has always found joy in working with children and supporting them to reach their goals. He has completed a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy at Australian Catholic University.
He has much experience working in schools in large class groups, small breakout groups, and especially individually. In this capacity, he specialised in targeting fine motor strength and ability, classroom skills, gross motor ability, motor planning, and sensory regulation, over a variety of diagnoses and ages.
He also has previous experience working with groups of children in therapy programs such as the exclusive and unique Amazing Magic Club, designed for children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy. He has also been a hip-hop dance teacher for children with disabilities. In his many roles working with children, Alexander has developed experience and awareness in situations arising out of, and resulting in, family trauma.
Alexander has worked with children with varying diagnoses, including behavioural and Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, as well as developmental disorders and Cerebral Palsy. Alexander has always been passionate in working to make the lives of children and their families better. He strives to increase independence and quality of life wherever he can
