SLEEP LIKE A BEAR. Reflux can really mess with your sleep. When you lie down, especially on your back, stomach acid can easily flow back into your oesophagus, causing pain and sometimes respiratory issues. Many people with reflux also have sleep apnea, which we know affects breathing and can cause more serious health issues.
Diet plays a crucial role in managing reflux. Finding your 'trigger foods' can take time and will differ depending on your level of sensitivity, which can change during the different stages of healing.
In general, it's best to avoid heavy meals before bed, be wary of highly acidic foods and spicy dishes, go light on oily and fried foods, and consider eating smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day.
A simple tip? Try sleeping on your left side. This position helps keep your stomach below the esophagus, reducing the chances of acid making its way back up. Itโs a small change that can make a big difference.
Then you can start sleeping more soundly and wake up feeling refreshed - just like a bear after a long, peaceful hibernation. ๐๐ป
