Meet Kyoko, the Practice Manager at New Leaf 🌱

Kyoko has spent many years working in natural health and has a particular love for skincare that supports the body rather than trying to “fix” it. Through her work at New Leaf, she’s seen how often people feel stuck between doing too much and doing nothing at all when it comes to their skin.

Her approach is grounded in and respect for the skin barrier — especially when skin is sensitive, -prone, or hormonally changing.

Although Kyoko doesn't see patients at New Leaf - she's still a wonderful help to them. She's started to write some helpful articles all about and environmental home care.

Here first article is LIVE - and she's answering the controversial questions "Is washing your face with water enough?" - Link in the bio - have a read and see if you're convinced.

~ Stay hydrated
~ Manage stress where you can

Not we know these habits aren’t exciting. And they definitely won’t go viral.

But 👏 they 👏 work 👏

And they’ll do more for your vitality than any trendy supplement or detox.

Are you struggling to build sustainable habits? Book a consultation and we’ll create a personalised health plan built for your daily life.

This time of year is LOUD about .
And most of what we’re being told? Not helpful.

One of the biggest myths we see is this idea that:
👉 If you just eat less and try harder, your metabolic health will improve.

That’s not how bodies work.

If you have insulin resistance, your body processes food differently.
Undereating or cutting carbohydrates can lead to:
• fatigue
• dizziness
• energy crashes
• worsening blood sugar instability

That’s not a lack of discipline — it’s your body asking for support.

Metabolic health isn’t about willpower.
It’s about understanding how your body works and responding with care, not punishment.

After a season of festive food, late nights, and a little extra everything… your gut might be asking for a bit of TLC.

The good news is that your gut microbiome can begin shifting in just a few days when you make adjustments to your nutrition!

Here are a few gentle ways to ease your digestion back into balance this January:

🌿 Reintroduce fibre slowly - Start with gentle, easy-to-digest options like cooked vegetables (carrots, zucchini, pumpkin), soft fruits (berries, banana, stewed apple), oats, chia seeds, and well-cooked legumes. Giving your gut time to adjust helps minimise bloating and discomfort.

🌿 Hydrate - Water supports regularity and helps maintain a healthy gut lining.

🌿 Include probiotic-rich foods - Think yoghurt, kimchi, kefir, miso, or sauerkraut to help restore beneficial bacteria.

🌿 Eat bright, colourful - These foods are full of those beautiful chemicals that help repair the gut microbiome

🌿 Support your nervous system - Try gentle movement, deep breathing, or a short walk. The gut–brain connection is real, and calmer days can mean calmer digestion.

Did you know we have a clinical nutritionist on our team!? ✨

Hannah combines nutrition and Naturopathy to offer personalised, holistic care (supporting your gut health from every angle).

17 years ago I made a massive change in my life - little did I know where this would take me!

I was living in the UK, I had worked as a film editor for a number of years but due to some health and hearing loss issues it was a job I could not do any more. I knew that a lot had to change.

I made the decision to enroll in a course back in Sydney at ACNT (now ), and start a the journey to become a naturopath, herbalist and nutritionist.

Change is never easy, and this career change was a tough one, coupled with some big personal life upheavals, a complex health journey, along with it and an international relocation.

So here we are 17 years later. I’m so lucky to have found this work I love. I’ve helped thousands of patients at , I’ve mentored and supported newer practitioners, I’ve volunteered to support my profession at the .est1920 (an association that’s over 100 years old and still going strong) and met so many wonderful friends - other praccies, educators, researchers, smart industry reps and regs people. What more could one ask for.

So here’s to this memory. And also just taking a chance on change.

Thanks for everyone who’s been there on the journey - couldn’t do this without you.

Looking forward to the next 17 years.

Some urges hit like waves.

They roll in fast, feel huge for a moment, and demand your full attention.

It can be uncomfortable, but it is completely normal.

The aim is not to push the feeling away or fight with it. The aim is to recognise what is happening and choose how you want to respond.

Urge surfing is a mindfulness skill that teaches you to notice the rise and fall of an impulse without getting swept up in it. You become the observer instead of the passenger.

With practice, the wave passes much quicker than it feels in the moment.

If this is something you want support with, working alongside a trained professional can give you a safe space to learn the skill, explore what triggers your urges, and build confidence in how you respond to them.

Sometimes we all need a little grounding (and a little honesty)

The New Year often brings a lot of pressure: fresh-start energy, big expectations, and the idea that we should suddenly become a “new” version of ourselves overnight.

But health doesn’t work like that.

So here are a few things to remember as you move through your own health path this year ➡️

You don’t have to figure it all out at once. And you don’t have to do it alone.

Support available when you’re ready.

We're collectively leaving some things behind in 2025 (and honestly, good riddance).

🚫 No more approaches that make us feel worse while promising we'll look better.
🚫 No more ignoring our real needs in favour of what's trending.
🚫 No more treating our bodies like they're problems to be solved.

These are things we’ve been leaving behind at New Leaf for a long time. We focus on what actually supports your personal health journey.

So if you want support that's rooted in sustainability, we’ve got you covered.

Are you feeling tired, bloated, or out of sync after the holidays?

The holidays can really take their toll on your body and your cycle.

Here are three simple ways to support your body after the holidays:

1️⃣ Prioritise Sleep and Rest - Holiday schedules, late nights, and travel can disrupt your circadian rhythm. Aim for consistent sleep to support hormone balance and reset your body’s natural rhythm.

2️⃣ Move Your Body Mindfully - Choose movement that feels nourishing. Think gentle walks, yoga, stretching, or light strength work. Movement helps regulate stress hormones and supports circulation and mood.

3️⃣ Nourish Without Restriction. Focus on balanced meals that feel good for your body. Try to include plenty of vegetables, protein, and hydration. Please, please, please avoid punitive “detoxes” or restrictive diets. Your hormones thrive on consistency and adequate nutrition.

If you want guidance on hormone health and cycle-supportive habits, our experts Jacintha and Hannah are available to help you navigate it safely.

Reach out to make an appointment today.
