If you run retreats, psych-ed /therapy groups, or personal development workshops, it's important to remember EVERYONE has a back ‘story’ - including you.
Whether a big ‘T’ trauma or little ‘t’ trauma - it is very rare to find a participant in these settings who hasn’t encountered a traumatic, or highly challenging event in their background. These events leave both a psychological and somatic memory.
Groups are rich environments where the cohort can learn and share with each other - however, in a split second someone can be triggered and the dynamics change. In that moment it is vital you as the facilitator, know exactly what to do to maintain a calm, safe space - to be able to ‘bracket’ your own emotional response ( because we can get triggered too) and take control to lead the group through the moment.
These group skills are rarely innate, and not always taught in formal qualifications.
This is why we developed a highly experiential 2-day, (PACFA endorsed) workshop to share our skills, knowledge and experience to support practitioners, coaches and trainers who work in the mental health and personal development fields.
