During this time, we have had the support of our local community, and we are very proud of our achievements. Darryl has a family history in funeral directing in Maryborough, dating back to the 1880s. In the 1850s, Robert Hubble Snr and his family came out from England. Robert was a cabinetmaker and undertaker before migrating to Australia. When he arrived in Maryborough in 1858, he began working for Mr. Edward Harkness as a cabinetmaker. In 1860/61, he set up his own furniture shop named R Hubble and Sons, on Tuaggra Street. In 1880, the business expanded to take in undertaking. In 1881, R Hubble and Sons purchased their first horse-drawn hearse, which served them until 1927 when they purchased a 1927 Dodge hearse, the town’s first motorised hearse. When Robert Snr retired in 1887, he handed over the business to his three sons Robert, John and William. John is Darryl's great grandfather. They carried the business on as Hubble Bros. until the family business was sold in 1941.
