We are kicking off the new year with the topic "being honest" in Minecraft groups this week. After the learning tasks the kids are creating their own treehouses. Here's a couple of wonderful designs - a tree-top house accessed via a bridge, and a cosy room with a skylight and picture window!

We are closed until 5th January to have some rest and recharge time! For me that will look like lots of time outdoors and catching up with family. I hope that you all can spend time doing things that bring you peace and happiness these holidays.

Our first Minecraft group topic for the Christmas holidays is "managing difficult feelings". Kids will learn what to do when they have difficult feelings at home and at school, to help them feel better and make good choices.

The first "Self-Care for Girls" group wrapped up yesterday, with overall very positive feedback from participants. The final session practicing natural makeup routines was the most popular!

This group will run again in term 2 next year (May-June) - watch this space for reminders if you are interested, or message me to go on the mailing list.

Drinking the right amount of fluids is one of the self-care "occupations" we often work on here in OT. This post from the Qld Children's Hospital is a nice easy reference for how much to drink and what colour your p*e should be!

☀️ With hot weather sticking around, it’s time for a quick hydration check for your little ones 💧

Kids lose fluids fast through sweat, so watch for darker wee — pale yellow is ideal! Encourage regular sips of plain water, even if they say they’re not thirsty 🥤Skip sugary, salty or icy drinks 🚫

Babies can’t tell us when they’re thirsty, so keep an eye on wet nappies. Fewer than usual in 24 hours? That’s a sign to call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84) or see your doctor 👶

Water goals per day:
5–8 yrs: 1L 💦
9–12 yrs: 1.5L 💦
13+: 2L 💦

Getting the take-home packs ready for our first Self-Care for Girls group today, where we will learn basic skin care for our face!

Our brand new "Self-care for girls" group starts next Tuesday 3.45pm. We kick off the program with a session about skin care routines. Ideal for teens and tweens with autism, ADHD, or any other challenges that make it harder for them to learn these life skills.

We added the option of a two-person group for our last MINECRAFT SOCIAL SKILLS holiday groups, and it worked really well! The two-person group provides a quieter sensory environment and allows more one-to-one attention for each child, as well as lots of in-the-moment support with social interactions.
