Save Our Marysville Indoor Pool

Save Our Marysville Indoor Pool Local people working to Save Marysville's indoor heated pool from demolition! More than 2000 people have signed petitions etc, but there's a long way to go.

We need this pool because it offers education that saves lives; jobs in the local economy; health benefits through physical activity and rehabilitation programs; an all-seasons recreational product for tourists and locals. $100,000 of Federal Government funding went into its construction; its less than 10 years old and it survived Black Saturday; we have qualified people ready to staff it, as they did up until December 2012. Now what we need is some good-will from government and private developers who are in partnership to redevelop the site.

Imagine being able to take your children to learn water safety classes in a new indoor Pop Up heated Swimming Pool here in our shire.
Or attend a small lap style pool for rehabilitation therapy rather than having to commute out of the shire?

A group of local parents have been working hard with swimming instructor Linda Watkins to develop a new portable heated swimming pool concept for Alexandra, especially designed for water safety classes for all ages and abilities, water aerobics and rehabilitation therapy sessions.
This project once realised will improve overall safety, health and wellbeing of participants.
We have located a potential venue for the pool and a manufacturer of a portable pop up heated pool that can be installed on site here in Alexandra.

If we want another pool, we have to jump up& down NOW make the EFFORT to write to The Standard by Friday 7 th , cos holiday Monday .. You only need to write a few lines condemning this Shire for being responsible for letting $5 million worth of infrastructure be lost. EMAIL; reception@alexandranewspapers.com.au or drop a snail mail under the front door, addressed to the Editor.Imagine if there were a page full of letters in next week ! Don't just give in & let them get away with it. The state gov. Could be forced into action if we scream loud enough. If we all make the effort to get three more more people to write that aren't on facebook could have a dramatic effect on . Take a pen, paper& envelope into your neighbours, & offer to stick it under the standards door, won't even cost you a stamp just 5 minutes.

If you listened to Neil Mitchell on 3AW this morning, could you please comment below on the numbers Peter Ryan gave concerning the opening hours of the pool and the costs involved.
Did he say the YMCA were only open 13 hours a week?

Just received a call from the reporter saying that the story will be in Monday's paper, better chance of having a good run on our story. For everyone that feels outraged about the destruction of our pool, please consider emailing the editor after they print our story to voice your opinion. The fight is on to have it replaced !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every voice counts....WE ARE NOT GIVING UP

Thank you to everyone that turned up today. The article should be in tomorrow's 'Herald Sun'. Unfortunately the powers that be made the decision to demolish the pool today, they were tearing it down while we stood watching. However, this fight is not over.....it has just begun. Hopefully this article in the paper will make people demand answers on why the destruction of such a valuable community asset was allowed.

Please show your support by attending the Marysville Indoor Pool tomorrow at 11am for the 'Herald Sun' photo. The editor would like the kids to bring a towel, googles if you have them and bathers.
We have worked very hard for this opportunity, so step up and show your support. This is our last chance !!!!!!!!!!!!

Some good news today...The Herald Sun want to write a BIG story about our plight to save the pool. They are coming to Marysville tomorrow (Friday 31st May) at 11am. They would like as many kids/babies as possible to come along for a photo.
If you are able to participate tomorrow, please comment below so we can let them know some idea of how many children.
Please try to make it.
