The NHAA was incorporated in 1920 and is the oldest complementary medicine association in Australia. The NHAA has a long record of working behind the scenes for the interests of herbal medicine. At the "big picture" level, protecting and advancing the profession is important for the entire country and allows the public greater access to a viable and effective treatment option. This creates greater demand for the high standard of health care service provided by our practicing members. This work requires constant vigilance and long hours of effort by the Board of Directors. Involvement in various committees and discussion groups, and production of submission papers and media releases are among the many activities of the Board. We have an engaged and passionate membership base, with three active local chapters in Melbourne (), Sydney () and Qld ().

We’re sharing an exciting research opportunity from 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 and inviting experienced Australian naturopathic practitioners to contribute to an important PhD study.

Led by Dr Manisha Thakkar, this Delphi Study aims to refine and validate a new Naturopathic Medicine Clinical Reasoning (NMCR) Framework — designed to strengthen how future practitioners learn and apply clinical reasoning. 🌿🧠

𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐞?
𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐨:
✔ Hold a recognised qualification in naturopathic medicine ✔ Have 5+ years clinical practice (or 2+ years post-grad practice) ✔ Are currently practising in Australia ✔ Are engaged in teaching clinical reasoning (publication recommended)

We’re closing 2025 with strong momentum: submissions more than doubled this year (93 papers from 12 countries) and acceptance rates lifted to 38%. We also rolled out pre-print publication to increase visibility for authors. This issue marks an exciting step forward as we continue to grow the reach and impact of the journal. We look forward to bringing you more innovative research in 2026.

Big news for practitioners: private health insurance rebates are set to return in 2026, making NHAA membership more important than ever for those wanting access to rebates. 🌱

🌿 𝐍𝐇𝐀𝐀 𝐎𝐮𝐭 & 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭

On 2 December, we were delighted to join 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 for a special sunset celebration marking two major milestones:
✨ 30 years of naturopathic medicine education, and
✨ 5 years of the National Centre for Naturopathic Medicine (NCNM).

Held in the beautiful Medicinal Plant Garden at the Lismore Campus, the event brought together alumni, practitioners, researchers, industry partners and university staff to honour 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐜 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡.
