SUN SAL WORKSHOP THIS SATURDAY
Sun salutations (Surya Namaskar) are a very traditional part of the practise, born from Ashtanga yoga. They are practised at the start of the class, after the warm up.
From a philosophical stand point, they are a practise of deep gratitude to the Sun and all that she provides- class was traditionally undertaken at dawn, so that makes even more sense! This is a beautiful way to practise gratitude.
From a physical stand point, they are an amazing way of warming up the whole body, and preparing you for any poses that might follow in the flow.
Sun sals are the epitome of a moving meditation- what yoga is sometimes referred to as! We move through the practise one breath, one movement- Helping you to get out of your mind, and into your body.
Bit hard to do that though, if you are wondering what the heck you are supposed to be doing!
CUE THIS WORKSHOP!
In this workshops we will break down the key movements found in Sun Salutations. Movement such as-
☀️Knees, chest, chin
☀️Chaturanga
☀️Baby cobra
☀️Upward facing dog
☀️Jump/ step forward/bqck
We will break these movements down, one part at a time, so that you can see what works for your body.
And thats the point- this is not about perfecting ANYTHING. This is about finding ways to move that best serve YOU.
So, if you want some help with what you are already doing- great! Come and we can tweak what needs tweaking.
If you want to progress- maybe you would like to know how to move from KCC into chatuarunga- great! Come, and I can show you some steps to take to get you there.
We will also put some focus on the breath- because if you are not breathing as you move through the poses… you ain’t doing yoga!
We always inhale to expand the body and make room of the lungs
We always exhale when we contract the body, helping to expel the breath from the lungs.
So, we will be working with the breath throughout the workshop, helping you to find it, and use it to ground your practise.
Don’t forget to book, and I will see you on your mats 😎
