Meet Alana, one of our passionate OTs at Engage VR, bringing creativity and care to the team as she helps clients reach their goals.
Why OT?
I’ve always loved problem-solving and being creative. OT gave me the chance to use those skills to make a real difference in people’s lives. Starting in hospital rehab gave me a strong foundation, but moving to Engage VR has allowed me to push my creative limits as a clinician and explore unique, out-of-the-box ways to support people in recovery and daily life.
Favourite VR activity?
Cubism! It’s a problem-solving experience that helps clients build planning, visuospatial awareness, and problem-solving skills. I love watching the different ways people approach challenges and the strategies they come up with to find solutions.
Dream VR game?
I’d design one that blends everyday functional tasks with engaging environments - like cooking in a virtual kitchen, gardening, or navigating a community. It would give people the chance to practice real-life skills in a safe, controlled, yet creative and fun way.
Most rewarding part?
Knowing that each day I’ve helped someone in some way. Even the smallest wins - like improving independence or confidence - can have a huge impact on someone’s quality of life.
Where I make the biggest impact?
I especially enjoy working with stroke survivors. Their resilience is so inspiring, and supporting their journey - whether that’s improving arm and hand function, rebuilding cognitive skills, or prescribing equipment for independence - is incredibly rewarding.
We are grateful to have you, Alana! 💚🖤
