Painful periods are common, but they’re not normal. Excess prostaglandins, hormone imbalances, and conditions like endometriosis, PCOS, or adenomyosis can all drive painful cycles.

Your period is a monthly report card on your health and pain is a sign to look deeper, not something to just push through.

Save this post if you need the reminder ✨

We can do so much through nutritional medicine — and thyroid health is a powerful example of that.

Some of the underlying causes of thyroid dysfunction can stem from nutrient deficiencies — particularly in selenium, iodine, iron, zinc, magnesium, vitamin D, and B vitamins.

These nutrients support hormone production, conversion, immune regulation, energy, and inflammation. When they’re depleted, thyroid function can take a hit.

Here are some whole food sources to focus on:
• Iron – grass-fed beef, beef spleen, cooked spinach, lentils
• Selenium – Brazil nuts (just 1–2 per day), sunflower seeds, eggs
• Iodine – seaweed (nori, dulse flakes), iodised salt, wild-caught fish
• Zinc – pumpkin seeds, oysters, red meat, chickpeas
• Magnesium – dark leafy greens, almonds, avocado, cacao
• Vitamin D – fatty fish, eggs, sensible sun exposure
• B vitamins (esp. B2, B6, B12) – eggs, wholegrains, meat

When we work with the body and give it what it needs, shifts can happen. Testing is key — always speak to your practitioner before supplementing.

Eating to support hormone health is essential because your hormones influence everything from energy, mood, and metabolism to menstrual cycles, fertility, and stress resilience. Nutrient-dense foods can help stabilise blood sugar, reduce inflammation, and provide the building blocks needed for healthy hormone production and detoxification.

Chronic stress, nutrient deficiencies, gut imbalances, and blood sugar dysregulation are all common drivers of hormonal issues. But with the right diet, you can help reduce symptoms like PMS, irregular cycles, low energy, or mood swings - while supporting long-term hormonal balance and overall well-being.

Prioritising whole foods rich in healthy fats, fibre, antioxidants, and key nutrients like magnesium, zinc, and B vitamins can make a profound difference.

Your body is always seeking balance, and every meal is an opportunity to nourish it in a way that supports hormone health.

Prioritise protein → Proteins supply amino acids, which are the building blocks for hormone synthesis, and help stabilise blood sugar to prevent hormonal imbalances caused by insulin spikes.

Boost magnesium → Magnesium plays a crucial role in over 300 enzymatic reactions, including those involved in stress response and hormone production, helping to regulate the nervous system and reduce cortisol levels.

Choose complex carbs → Complex carbohydrates provide steady glucose release, which maintains balanced insulin levels—key to preventing disruptions in s*x hormone production and energy regulation.

Add healthy fats → Healthy fats supply essential fatty acids that are the foundation of hormone molecules and support cell membrane integrity for proper hormone receptor function.

Support detoxification → Cruciferous vegetables and sulfur-containing foods like garlic and onions enhance liver enzyme pathways that metabolise and clear excess hormones, promoting hormonal balance.

Looking for more personalised support to balance your hormones?

Our Hormone Balance Package is a 4-month 1:1 journey designed to help you feel balanced and understand exactly what’s going on with your hormones.
