🚨 The biggest tendon myth I hear in clinic…“Tendons just need time and rest.”

Here’s the truth 👇
Tendons do NOT heal with time and rest.
In fact, the longer you wait, the longer tendinopathy tends to hang around.

Tendons need the right stimulus to heal.That means progressive loading, targeted strength work, and addressing the mechanics that caused the issue in the first place.

Rest alone might settle symptoms short term, but it doesn’t rebuild tendon capacity. And that’s why pain keeps coming back when you return to activity.

Here are 3 signs your shoulder mobility needs work 👇

1️⃣ Your lower back arches every time you lift your arms overhead.
This usually means your shoulders aren’t moving well, so your spine cheats to get the job done.

2️⃣ Clicking, pinching or stiffness with everyday movements.
That’s your shoulder saying, “Hey, something isn’t gliding the way it should.”

3️⃣ You can’t join your hands behind your back.
A big giveaway that internal and external rotation are limited.

Here are 3 key Laura and I are prepping our bodies to handle the demands of open water swimming:

1️⃣ Thoracic mobility: Optimal shoulder function starts with a mobile mid back. Adequate thoracic rotation allows for smoother, more efficient arm movement in the water.

2️⃣ Rotator cuff strengthening: The rotator cuff doesn’t just control arm rotation, it’s vital for shoulder stability and injury prevention, helping you move powerfully through every stroke.

3️⃣ Scapular stability: The shoulder is one of the most mobile joints in the body, but also one of the least stable. Building strong, stable shoulder blades is essential for power, control, and endurance in every swim.

Preparing your body for open water swimming means building mobility, strength, and stability from the ground up.
