Osteo?? That’s bone right 🦴?
So far this is the most common thing I’ve heard when speaking to someone who is foreign to Osteopathy..
In all fairness it’s a half decent guess, as osteo is Greek for bone..
However the practice of Osteopathy is centred around improving pain and dysfunction with all of the body’s systems in mind.
Put simply, this means if you’re suffering from a musculoskeletal injury, such as shoulder or hip pain, then your Osteo will assess the health of your digestive system, cardiovascular and so on to understand how your entire health is contributing to your pain.
It may seem hard to see how these systems play a role in an injury at the wrist or elbow for instance, however it’s about the complete picture..
How does this effect your ability to recover? What does that mean for you returning to work and how will that impact your mental health? If you’re unable to work and your mental health is at risk, could this be a small injury that eventuates to long standing chronic pain..
Going beyond simply assessing the site of injury and giving out an exercise program, mitigates the risk of long term complications and individualises management directly to you the patient!!
Plain and simple, there is no cookie cutter s**t happening 😤
