As someone who has over 20 years experience in the health and fitness industry as a personal trainer and coach I wholeheartedly agree with this article. We can see the benefits with the children we care for in A1 Respite Care , through the types of games we play and the custom focus exercises for developing stronger human movement patterns. One of the greatest investment you can do for your child and yourself is to develop skills in strength, coordination and balance to the best of each individual’s ability. Not only do we see improvement in the physical performance but we see improvements in confidence, emotional well-being and concentration.

Why heavy work activities help your child's proprioceptive input for better learning and attention in the classroom.

It’s not always about doing fun activities with kids in respite, it’s also very important that we take the time to help our clients with things they might struggle with in school.

Practicing simple words for some children who may have learning difficulties or be a little behind in their education can be very difficult and downright stressful.

I like to focus more on the encouragement and high fives than anything else as there’s nothing more satisfying to a child than someone who believes in them.

Pool time is a fantastic opportunity to develop boundaries, skills and have fun through encouragement.

Not so long ago, the boys struggled with their ability to make it to the edge of the pool let alone be able to make it from one end of the pool to the other.

The real danger for the boys was that this was never a deterrent. They had no fear. So we made sure that the first thing we learnt was to get to the edge of the pool first.

Because the boys love the pool so much it was easy to set boundaries because in order to have fun time the rule was they had to do 10 minutes of swimming practice before they got to play. Nothing works better than some good old fashioned insensitive.

Naturally over time the boy’s confidence and ability just improved.
