😴 The sleep cycle, also known as the circadian rhythm, is the body's internal clock that regulates the timing of sleep and wakefulness.

🌝 It is a 24-hour cycle that is influenced by light and darkness, and it helps to coordinate our sleep and wake cycles with the natural rhythm of the day.

💤 Maintaining a consistent sleep schedule in alignment with your body's circadian rhythm can help you get better sleep. When your body is in sync with the natural cycle of light and darkness, it is better able to produce the hormones and neurotransmitters necessary for sleep, and it becomes easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.

☀️ Additionally, by keeping a consistent sleep schedule and exposing yourself to natural light during the day you can help regulate your circadian rhythm, which can lead to better sleep, improved mood, and overall better health.

💙Circadian rhythm also helps in regulating many physiological functions such as body temperature, hormone production, and metabolism. So, by regulating your circadian rhythm you can also regulate these functions, which ultimately lead to better sleep and overall health.

Does journaling actually work?

Well I suppose it depends who you ask.

For me, it is one of the best techniques I use to help manage my feelings of a 'racing mind'.

But do you want to know the best part about journaling? You can tailor the style of journaling to suit whatever works best for you!

✨ For me journaling feels like I am freeing up space in my mind by getting my thoughts out onto paper. As my mind is constantly racing thinking about the 10000 things I want to do the next day, I use my journal to write a 'to-do' list for the next day. It literally feels like I am freeing up space in my mind as I transfer the thoughts out of my head and onto the paper, ready to be revisited and actioned in the morning.

✨ Journaling can also be beneficial as a reflective tool. Are you one of those people who constantly replay certain situations of your day in your mind? How about highlighting 3 things which made you smile during the day instead, writing them down and focusing your energy on them?

✨Journaling can mean something different to everyone - it's all about finding what technique works best for you.

Have you tried journaling and still didn't like it?

Are you more of an artistic person who would prefer to draw instead of write?

Well, if you answered yes - we have a treat for you too in our November box!

Why can't I switch off at night?

It's a common question many of us face at some stage of our lives.

Getting a great night's sleep is so reliant on how each one of our minds, body and soul are feeling. That's why we're going to delve deeper into calming all three with our upcoming November box.

When we go to sleep, we don't have the environmental distractions we experience during the day, so we are essentially left alone with our thoughts and therefore many of us may find it hard to turn them off.

However, there are some techniques you can try to help manage these feelings of a 'racing mind'. Journaling is one of the best techniques that helped me! And do you want to know the best part about it? You can tailor the style of journaling to suit whatever works best for you!

DID YOU KNOW "How do I get into a sleep routine" is one of the most Googled sleep related questions?

There is so much emphasis on sleep routines for babies and children but a sleep routine for us adults is just as important.

As someone who has suffered from burnout, from always trying to jam pack my days, here are my top tips for starting a bedtime routine.

✨ 1. The most important tip: Keep it simple. It's so easy to get overwhelmed. But when you strip it all back and just focus on one simple action at a time, it's easier to stay consistent.

✨ 2. Focus on something you enjoy. You don't have to all of a sudden start meditating if it doesn't appeal to you. There are so many other options - such as enjoying a warm cup of tea, or enjoying a hot chocolate, lighting a candle, spraying some lavender and magnesium spray, going for a walk after dinner to start winding down...the list really is endless. The key is to find something that you enjoy. Remember this is supposed to be a relaxing wind down routine... not a chore.

✨ 3. Try to start your routine at the same time every night. Even if you mix up the activities involved in your routine, if you start winding down at a consistent time every night, your body gets into a rhythm and will start to transition into 'rest' mode easier.

What is your favourite activity to do as part of your bedtime routine? Let me know in the comments 👇🏻

The Top 3 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Hit The Snooze Button!

We're all guilty of it but according to experts, hitting the snooze button is actually doing more harm than good. Here are 3 reasons why:

1. It's not productive sleep. "The 10 more minutes of sleep you're granting yourself over and over and over isn't productive sleep," says Dr. Aarthi Ram, a US neurologist specialising in sleep medicine. "If anything, all of that interrupted sleep will make you feel more groggy."

2. It confuses your body clock. Even though you know you haven't gotten enough sleep, the constant snoozing of your alarm and the interruption to your sleep schedule can throw off your body's internal clock, disrupting the timing of important biological processes. It can therefore leave you feeling fatigued when you'd normally feel alert. It can also impact your metabolism and energy levels too.

3. It can cause you to oversleep. All of a sudden, if you continue to sleep through - or snooze through - your alarm, your body is no longer triggered by the alarm. As a result, the jarring ringtone no longer provides that stress response and your body will learn to ignore the sound because that's what it has been repetitively trained to do. This can cause you to oversleep and completely miss your alarm altogether.

ONLY FOUR DAYS TO GO: If you sign up to our October box you'll receive the elegant Alana alarm clock. Enjoy that uninterrupted beauty sleep and wake up as soon as your alarm rings.

⏰ Do you wake up before your alarm, because you're anxious you're going to oversleep?

⏰ Do you struggle to get to sleep because you're worried you're going to miss your alarm?

⏰ Do you get stressed thinking about your alarm clock failing?

👉 If you answered yes to at least one of the above, chances are you have alarm anxiety.

✨Alarm anxiety is a vicious cycle manifesting around fear of missing your alarm. You may not be able to get to sleep, because you're stressed about sleeping through your alarm. Or you may be stressed you're not going to get enough sleep before your alarm goes off. This stress then manifests as you start thinking about the impact the lack of quality sleep will have on you, and then you start to become stressed about not sleeping.

Sounds like a whole lot of stress right?

💙 TOP TIPS: Experts advise beating 'Alarm Anxiety' won't happen overnight...but here are some tips you can try:

🕰 Hide the time: The idea behind having no concept of time, when you're tossing and turning, stops the anxiety that breeds when the clock is telling you your alarm is about to go off.

⏰⏰ Set 2 alarms: Use two different devices - e.g. your mobile phone and our Alana alarm clock (featured in this month's October box) to beat the anxiety around your alarm not going off. It's all about easing your mind.

🫶 Meditate before bed: Try to calm your body and eliminate stress before you go to bed. This can be through a gentle meditation or breathing exercise. Members will get access to these resources for FREE after signing up.

What's Your Go-to Sleep Position?

On your back: According to sleep experts sleeping on your back can offer the most health benefits. It protects your spine, as your body is kept in even alignment. It can also help relieve hip and knee pain. Sleeping like this can be a sign of discipline. You are generally physically fit, dominant in nature, and always up for a challenge.

On your side: Sleeping on your side also has its benefits. It's known to reduce snoring, is great for digestion and may even reduce heartburn. Generally, side sleepers are very diligent and practical. You always want more from life and work hard to achieve your goals.

Fetal Position: This is the most popular sleeping position. It's great for reducing lower back pain, as well as helping to reduce snoring. But experts encourage you to make sure your posture is relatively loose, otherwise your comfy position could limit deep breathing while you snooze. If you have trouble with joint pain or stiffness, sleeping in a tight fetal position might leave you sore in the morning. Fetal position sleepers may be have a tendency to always overthink situations.

On your stomach: This is the least recommended position by sleep experts. While it may be a good position for reducing snoring or helping with sleep apnea it can cause other problems such as stomach, neck and back pain. It can also add a lot of unnecessary strain to your muscles and joints, which is why you might be waking up sore and tired. If this is you, try placing a pillow under your lower belly. If you sleep in this position, you may struggle to manage your time.
