For too long, "accessible housing" has been treated like a clinical checklist rather than a place you’d actually choose to call home.

At Cosy Home Care, we will to help you understand the options so you can choose a living arrangement that actually works for you. Here is a simple breakdown of the different NDIS housing supports available.

🕛 Supported Independent Living (SIL)
This is an ongoing support for those who want a balance of independence and help. You usually share a home with two or three housemates in a setting designed for round-the-clock assistance. It is a great way to build your daily skills in a friendly, communal environment.

🕧 Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)
SDA is purpose-built for participants with very complex needs. These homes are custom-designed to match specific requirements. For example, a home might include sensory-friendly technology for someone with autism or wide doorways and ceiling hoists for those with mobility goals.

🕝 Medium Term Accommodation (MTA)
If you are waiting for your long-term home to be ready or transitioning from hospital, MTA is your 90-day bridge. The NDIS funds this for up to 13 weeks to ensure you have a safe, accessible place to stay while your permanent supports are finalised.

🕑 Short Term Accommodation (STA)
Commonly known as respite care, STA is a temporary stay of up to 2 weeks. It is a chance for a change of scenery and a recharge, ensuring you have all the support you need while your primary carer takes a break.
