Acne is one of the most common inflammatory skin diseases typically occurs around adolescence, it can also occur in newborn babies and also persist beyond adolescence in susceptible individuals. Acne presents with both inflamed lesions as well as comedones (blackheads, whiteheads). Hormonal changes do play a role, especially in late-onset acne in women due to increased levels of androgens. Acne can lead to scarring and pigmentary changes following the resolution of acne. It can have a big impact on an individual’s life, and self-confidence.
