"Late Summer Harvest – The Reward & The Rush" 🍅🌿✨

That time of year is here—when all the hard work in the garden finally pays off, and you’re swimming in fresh produce. The tomatoes are bursting, the zucchinis won’t stop, and every meal is homegrown. But here’s the thing… now the real work begins!

Because if you’re not eating it fresh, you’re preserving it. Canning, fermenting, drying, freezing—trying different methods to see what actually sticks with your family for next year. And let’s be honest… if you don’t write it down in your recipe book now, there’s zero chance you’ll remember what worked next season! 😂

So here’s to the late-summer hustle—harvesting, experimenting, and making sure nothing goes to waste. What’s your go-to way to preserve the harvest? ⬇️

🥒 Lessons from the Garden: Growing Cucumbers 🥒

Last year, my cucumbers turned bitter while we were figuring out our irrigation system—it was a tough lesson, but I learned that consistent watering is key to keeping them crisp and delicious. This year, I added a little extra fertiliser (I used one for tomatoes) to give them a boost, and it made a big difference in their growth. We also built rustic triangular support structures using jute rope for the vines to climb, and they worked brilliantly! The cucumbers stayed off the ground, had better airflow, and were much easier to harvest. On top of that, companion planting with nasturtiums worked wonders, deterring pests and adding a pop of colour to the garden. Each season brings new lessons, and I’m loving the process of growing and improving.

Quick Tips
- Water consistently to prevent bitterness.
- Feed them with tomato fertiliser to encourage straight, healthy growth.
- Use triangular supports with jute rope for easy climbing and healthier vines.
- Plant nasturtiums nearby to keep pests away and beautify the garden.
