👏 We’re proud of our CEO Lynette McKeown for taking part in an important discussion about the future of disability services.

Lynette recently joined other disability sector leaders on a panel at the NDS Conference on Staying Strong: Innovation, Sustainability & Strategic Leadership in Disability Services.

The panel looked at how organisations can continue to provide high-quality support while responding to changes in the NDIS and the disability sector.

Lynette spoke about our growth journey and how becoming a larger organisation helps us stay strong for the future. It also gives the people we support more choice, flexibility and access to a wider range of services, especially at a time when many participants are experiencing changes to their NDIS plans.

Alex is deafblind. He lost his sight as a teenager and lives with significant hearing loss.

As Alex's vision changed, so did his independence. Everyday moments, like walking into a room, finding friends or ordering food now take planning, patience and often someone by his side.

Your donation today helps change that.

Able Australia provides specialist Communication Guides and programs that help people who are deafblind stay connected and live with greater independence.

“Donating to Able helps the deafblind community thrive,” Alex says. “It helps create more opportunities, more support, more chances for people to get out of their houses and be part of life.”

Please donate today to support people like Alex.

40 campers. 3 huge days. Countless unforgettable moments. 🙌

This National Volunteer Week, we’re giving a huge shout out to the incredible volunteers who helped make Deafblind Camp 2026 such a success.

From supporting communication and guiding activities, to helping campers connect, participate and try new experiences, our volunteers brought energy, enthusiasm and support to every part of the camp.

The impact you made across the camp was enormous and helped create an inclusive, welcoming and fun experience for everyone involved.

Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day 🌍♿

At Able Australia, accessibility supports us to create Better Days, Every Day.

Accessibility works to support people to connect, communicate, participate and belong. This can online, in the community, at events, at work or in everyday life.

We know accessibility is not one-size-fits-all. It’s about listening, breaking down barriers and creating environments where people with disability can fully participate in the way that works best for them.

From accessible communication and inclusive experiences to person-centred support, we are committed to building a more inclusive community for everyone.

Because when accessibility improves, everyone benefits.

Today we put the spotlight on Gray who is a big of part of our Team in Melbourne.
We sat down with him to ask a few questions about his work, his passion and let's just say his energy is infectious!.

1. How long have you worked in Disability Services?
I’ve been in Disability services for just over 20 years in Accommodation and Day Service. Worked with 3 different companies during this time in multiple roles eg DSW, Team Leader, House Supervisor, Community Facilitator, Community Services Lead.

2. What is your role?
My current role is Community Services Lead in Day Support where we support clients to have better days every day and push for meaningful Community engagement and participation.
3. Why do you choose to work in Disability Services?
Disability has always been a part of my upbringing and with a father who is a doctor and a mum who worked as a fund-raiser for 27 years for a school that catered for children with Cerebral Palsey, it was always written in the stars for me.
4. What do you enjoy most about working your work?
Supporting our clients to have Dignity of Risk and the access to activities and experiences that everyone else gets to do. I love leading from the front and sharing in these experiences with the people we support and seeing how much pleasure they get from this.

5. What makes working at Able Australia great?
The support I get from the other departments and how everyone is invested and gets excited about our client successes. Love the partnership and collaboration we share with our other Day Service Able North.

6. What’s a memorable moment you've had on the job?
Oh my goodness. I seriously have so many but one of my favourites was supporting a client with behaviours of concern to re-engage in a swimming program that he hadn't been a part of since Covid. He now goes swimming every week.

7. What’s something your clients have taught you?
My clients teach me every day that we have to be flexible as their needs are ever changing. Don't assume that you know everything, because you don't and no one does. They are also capable of so much and we shouldn't transfer our own assumptions onto them.

Remembering last year when we got to explore the wonders of Werribee Open Range Zoo!

Our fun and friendly Able Day Service team had an amazing time exploring the zoo with the people we support!

🐒 Francis couldn’t stop smiling and laughing while watching the monkeys!
🐘 Chris loved visiting the elephants in their brand-new, world-leading habitat.
🚌 The Werribee Zoo Safari bus brought plenty of laughs and excitement, especially when Deb got up close to a cheeky ostrich!

Days like this remind us how special shared experiences can be.

A heartfelt thank you to State Trustees Foundation, Zoos Victoria and all of our generous donors, for making this unforgettable day possible. 💛
