A mobility scooter can open up a world of independence – but only if it’s the right fit for your client’s needs. OTs play a vital role in prescribing the right solution.

Successful scooter prescription relies on OTs:
🔹 Setting goals based on their client’s mobility needs
🔹 Conducting clinical and on-device assessments
🔹 Recommending the right scooter for each client’s physical and cognitive abilities
🔹 Providing essential training for its safe operation

Getting a mobility scooter is a team effort. Key players include:

🔹 GPs – provide initial medical clearance

🔹 OTs – assessing capacity and suitability

🔹 Other health professionals – such as audiologists or optometrists, if needed

🔹 Equipment suppliers – like ILS, offering expert guidance on devices

🔹 Family and carers – supporting training, storage, and daily use

By working together, we can ensure every client receives a safe & suitable mobility solution.

A mobility scooter is more than just a means of transportation – it’s a tool for independence, confidence and a better quality of life. Clients often describe their scooter as life-changing:

"Before I got my first scooter, I was restricted to my home. Now, I get out and about by myself a lot more. I couldn't imagine being without one ever again."

Mobility scooters provide:

✔️ Increased self-worth and confidence

✔️ The ability to maintain important life roles

But with the benefits come responsibilities. Navigating public spaces, ensuring safe operation and avoiding accidents are essential skills. That’s why proper assessment and training are key to ensuring that every scooter user has a positive and safe experience.
