🧠 Mental health matters. Today and every day.

October marks Mental Health Month, a time to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and spark meaningful conversations about mental wellbeing.

At Focus Care, we know that wellbeing goes beyond the physical. It’s about feeling seen, connected, and supported, whether you're receiving care, providing it, or simply checking in on yourself.

This month (and always) let’s prioritise kindness to ourselves and to others. Even the smallest gestures can make a big impact 💛

Today, on World Cerebral Palsy Day, we celebrate and acknowledge the unique experiences, strengths, and stories of people living with cerebral palsy.
With individuals, families, advocates, and organisations across more than 100 countries, this day is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together.

Cerebral palsy is a lifelong physical disability that primarily affects movement and posture, and may also involve challenges related to communication, vision, hearing, and mobility. Its impact varies widely among individuals, from subtle motor differences to significant physical support needs.

More than 17 million people worldwide live with cerebral palsy, and an estimated 350 million people are closely connected to someone who does. In Australia, around 34,000 people are living with cerebral palsy, making it the most common childhood-onset physical disability.

This year’s theme, , reminds us that while every person with cerebral palsy has a unique experience, our shared goal is the same: a world that is inclusive, accessible, and equitable.

At Focus Care, we are dedicated to creating a future where every individual, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to live fully and authentically.

✨ Did you know that Focus Care has a dedicated team of Occupational Therapists in Sydney who provide in-home visits? 🏡🌿

In-home Occupational Therapy offers many benefits that can enhance independence, safety, and overall well being, including:

1. Personalised Care Plans:
Our OTs complete Comprehensive Home and Function Assessments to understand your unique needs. From there, they create tailored plans that may include daily living skills training, cognitive exercises, or carer education to help you live more independently.

2. Safe and Supportive Environments:
By working with you in your own home, our OTs can recommend home accessibility modifications, such as ramps, rails, or minor layout changes, that make your living environment safer and more comfortable while supporting your everyday routines.

3. Enhanced Safety and Confidence:
Through falls prevention strategies, assistive technology assessments and trials, and training in safe handling, OTs help reduce risks and ensure you can move around and engage in daily tasks with greater confidence and security.

4. Independence and Quality of Life:
Occupational Therapy isn't just about safety, it’s about empowering you to thrive. Whether it’s learning new daily living skills with a Montessori approach, building social and communication confidence, or strengthening memory and problem-solving with cognitive training, our OTs support you to stay active, connected, and independent.

Our in-house team of Occupational Therapists are dedicated to empowering independence through expert care. Call us on 1800 362 871 to learn how our team can support you.

This week is Dementia Action Week.

In 2025, around 433,300 Australians are living with dementia, including roughly 29,000 people with younger-onset dementia. More than 1.7 million Australians are involved in caring for someone living with dementia, showing just how widespread its impact is.

Without significant intervention, the number of people living with dementia is projected to rise to over 812,000 by 2054.

This year’s theme, “Nobody can do it alone,” is a powerful reminder that Dementia doesn't just impact the person living with the condition and their immediate carers; it also impacts their family, friends and wider social network.

At Focus Care, we're committed to creating a dementia-friendly future by embracing leading approaches to care — including our Montessori-based dementia support, designed to nurture independence and dignity.

Thank you to Dementia Australia for running this initiative and for supporting so many Australians who are affected by this condition.

Today is 'R U OK? Day'. A day that reminds us of the power we have to make a huge difference in someone's life when we simply check in with them and show we care.

"Are you OK?” is more than just a question, it’s a conversation that could change a life.

How it can look:
💬 Start with care: Genuinely ask, "How are you?"
👂 Listen: Give them your full attention, without trying to fix things.
🧡 Support: Encourage them to seek help if they need it.
🤝 Follow up: A simple message later on can make all the difference.

What to do if someone says they're not ok?
🩵 Give them time and space to talk about what they're going through
🩵Come up with some ideas together that might lighten their load of help them feel a little better
🩵 Encourage them to seek support - this could be family, a friend or a health professional
🩵 Check in regularly so that they know you care and are there for them

You don't have to have the answers or be able to solve their problems, but you can help them consider the next steps and actions they can take to manage their situation.

💜 World Alzheimer’s Month | September 2025 💜

Each September, people around the world come together to raise awareness and challenge stigma surrounding Alzheimer’s disease and all types of dementia.

This year’s campaign encourages open conversations through and , helping to change perceptions, normalise questions, and build understanding.

Dementia affects over 55 million people globally, and in Australia, it is the second leading cause of death. More than 400,000 Australians are currently living with dementia, with Alzheimer’s being the most common form. Families and carers are also deeply impacted.

Here’s how you can take part this September:

~ Learn more about dementia and its impact
~ Ask questions to better understand
~ Share resources and stories to support others
~ Help spread awareness in your community

💙 Happy Father’s Day! 💙

To all the dads out there, thank you for your love, guidance, and all the little (and big) ways you make life sweeter. You are appreciated today and every day!

“Dads are like chocolate chip cookies; they may have chips or be a little nutty, but they are sweet and make the world a better place.”
