I’ve seen Sarah for a little while now - she was in constant pain when we first met, but nowadays she only needs a tune-up every now and then 😊

Her issue in this video was her right ankle giving her trouble, especially after Muay Thai. NKT testing and assessment found that her left internal oblique was actually restricted, leading to the ankle overworking.

During gait, you rotate a hell of a lot more than you think! Adding punches and kicks to that - rotating at speed and having to then absorb that force - can be a recipe for pain.

Luckily we found the root of the problem, fixed it, and this is the immediate result.

If you’re having ankle issues, hip issues, any issues! Get in touch, let me know, because I’d love to help out ✌🏽

Another person pain-free! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

George came to see me for lower back pain, which he’s been struggling with for a number of years.

He’d worked with a few sports therapists back in the UK, but the issues would reoccur. Thanks to a friend’s recommendation, he found me!

After some quick tests and screens, I asked him when his pain started. Then I asked him if he had any scars or tattoos, especially around the abdomen.

Turns out, he got his first significant tattoo around the same time as his pain started, right under the ribs, where his core lives.

Y’see, the fascia of the body is kinda like, three layers of wetsuit - all sliding against each other as you move.

And a scar - from a surgery, or a tattooing needle - is like sticking a nail through those layers. It doesn’t slide anymore.

Which means you don’t move so well anymore.

If you’ve got a fascial distortion like that ON your core? Where your body constantly transfers ground force? Also where you stabilise your spine?

Short story, not so good. You might wanna rethink that script that turns into birds 😇

Just shading can be pretty brutal, causing you to tense up in that area and then never let go…

For George, we found that his two abdominal tattoos were in a dysfunctional pattern with each other, with two shaded areas jammed up and running along the same vector towards his midline.

And once we cleared that pattern, he felt a LOT better. He immediately noticed the difference in his lower back, just walking up some stairs.

Thanks to his personalised NKT protocol, that pattern will eventually cease to exist. Pain-free for the first time in four years!

I know - I wouldn’t believe tattoos could cause major core issues either, until finding them first-hand, numerous times now. 🙃

If you’re having recurring issues with pain or mobility, there’s a deeper issue that isn’t being addressed. So hit me up - I’d love to help out ✌🏽

My pal Lachie wanted to see me for an issue with his left hip being forward - being on his feet all day would cause him a lot of sciatic pain radiating all the way down his leg. It’s been an issue for him for roughly 8 years, despite physio visits.

As you can see on the left, that left hip is sitting lower than it should. He had next to no balance standing on that leg - it was like watching a tilt-a-whirl. 🎢

The quadratus lumborum (QL) works in concert with the opposite leg's adductors and abductors to pull one hip up and stabilise you during gait. In a case with a hip drop like this, it's often one side overworking for the other.

NKT testing showed that what Lachie needed was a simple QL>QL correction. Now his hips are a LOT more even. With that balance restored, he can do flamingo impersonations all day 😉

Here's what he had to say:

"I was having lots of back and leg pains and some trouble sleeping. Rory came and saw me, spotted immediately what was wrong with my hips. He realigned me and gave me a couple of stretches to work on and I've not had a problem since. 12/10"

Calhan got in touch after seeing a post of mine a while back.

Like most people in chronic pain, he'd seen lots of different specialists, without much in the way of results. It was getting to the point where he was considering leaving his profession, due to its physical demands.

Luckily, we were able to find some common issues, thanks to NKT testing. An overworking hip flexor and an underworking deep spinal muscle, leading to further compensation between a hamstring and spinal muscle on the other side, finally culminating in neck and shoulder pain.

Dysfunction is like an onion in that way - sometimes one thing can cause layers of dysfunction all the way along the chain. Also it can make you cry 😬

By addressing these relationships, and especially taking note of their hierarchy within motor control, Calhan walked out of our session feeling like a new person and ready to dive into work with gusto.

And unlike previous treatment modalities, his adherence to his personal protocol kept him out of pain. He'll be serving drinks for quite a while longer I suspect 😉

If you've been having chronic issues that no-one's been able to give you relief for, get in touch. I'd love to help out ✌🏽

Sylvia came to train with me shortly after having her first child. As a Pilates instructor, one of her goals has been to do the splits. However, with relaxin hormone still in her system, and nearly a year off any strenuous training, it was important for us to reintegrate her inner core to her movement, before working on her flexibility.

We established a base of strength through basic movement patterns, and utilised breathing protocols to establish a mind-muscle connection to her deep core muscles. Then, building on these protocols, we then got to work on her flexibility.

In these photos, you can see the progress we made in one session, then in a second session two days later. All totally hands-off, using her breath and core to both strengthen, and consequently relax into position. With that neural connection, the gains made in flexibility were more likely to hold, and subsequently increase.

Here’s what she has to say:

“I’ve been training with Rory since I had my baby and it’s been an amazing experience. Training post partum is tough but Rory has helped me build a strong foundation and take things at my own pace. I’m feeling strong and have made awesome progress towards my goals with Rory’s guidance. I feel supported and safe training with Rory which is so important when coming back to exercise after a baby. I HIGHLY recommend training with Rory!"

If you're coming back to fitness from childbirth, and you could use some help getting there, get in touch! I'd love to help ✌🏽

WHAT IS NKT?

NeuroKinetic Therapy is a modality used worldwide by physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, and movement professionals.

Created by David Weinstock, NKT seeks to address chronic pain and tightness by tapping into in the cerebellum - the brain's motor control centre.

Using systemised orthopaedic assessments and manual muscle testing, NKT eliminates guesswork, pinpointing muscle imbalances, and consequent movement dysfunction.

Sequenced challenges lead to accurate diagnostics of whether a muscle is overworking or underworking - both of which result in "tightness."

With a defined relationship between dysfunctional muscles, NKT combines soft-tissue releases and muscle activations to restore optimal function.

Clients are then given their own personalised protocol to manage and eliminate their dysfunctional pattern, rewiring and strengthening a new neural pathway.
