In 2019, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) transitioned to an outcomes-based assessment (OBA) system to assess internationally qualified nurses holding nursing qualification relevant to Australian degrees. It replaces the old assessment model and reduces the previous eight assessment criteria to now only three criteria.

The new assessment model includes completing a self-check, attending an orientation, and taking NCLEX and OSCE exams which form the Outcomes-Based Assessment (OBA).
