Have you ever experimented with colour psychology? 🌈

This world full of colour, and without even realising it, we are always responding to it. Whether that be good, bad or otherwise.

The only thing is, we don't always realise that we are πŸ€”

Colour can affect us on such a subconscious level. But it can also tell us so much about ourselves.

Notice what colours you are drawn to day-to-day. You can do this by using your clothing, crystals, or anything that has a selection of colour πŸ‘—

You may surprise yourself...

Even though we have our favourite colours, you will instinctively be drawn to certain colours at particular times.

If you're feeling a little down, you may he drawn to charcoals and greys. If you're feeling quite happy and light, you might be drawn to yellows and oranges 🍊

I conducted this experiment on myself when I worked in the paint shop. Each day for about a week I would walk over to one of the colour walls and see where I gravitated. It was very interesting to say the least!

I was all over the spectrum! If I was having a bit of a down day, I would be attracted to the charcoals - almost black. If I was in a better mood, I moved to the turquoise and teals 🎭

The aim of this exercise is to see what colour is actually saying about YOU.

Try it out and let me know how you went. Comment below - I really wanna know!! πŸ€“

One thing I've always loved... 😍

A colour chip! Why? Because they've got colours on them! πŸ˜†

I used to collect them as a kid and teen. My dad would take me along to Mitre 10, Paint Spot and Bunnings, and I'd have a field day.

I'd be dreaming about all of the things those colours could be used for, future clients I'd be recommending them to; so many things that these colour cards and chips represented 🎨

Even though I no longer work in a paint store, I will always have an appreciation for it. It serves a massive purpose in what I do and why i do it.

As humans we are designed to respond to colour, especially on a primal level. And that's another reason why I love it - it's built into our DNA 🧬

If you're unsure how to use colour, why not send me a DM and let's see where we can go on your colour journey. After all, it's in our blood πŸ˜‰

Things change πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Sometimes what you set out to do or accomplish isn't where you end up. It could be so completely different.

That's what I've been discovering πŸ”

The things I want to do keep evolving. I start with one idea, and it transforms into another.

I guess that's the beauty of having your own business. You don't have to conform to the "rules", because really, there are none πŸ₯Έ

We impose rules upon ourselves because we believe that is what is expected, when really we could use those "rules" as guidelines and just create our own. Do what works for you.

Where you intend to go and where you end up being, are two very different things... ☯️

"I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be."
-Douglas Adams

I did it anyway! ✌️

That's right. They said I couldn't. I shouldn't. And why would you want to do that?

I was surrounded by a lot of misconceptions and stereotypes back in high school in regards to wanting to study interior design 🏑

This was about 16 years ago, and when I would tell people what I wanted to study after leaving high school, it would be met with a bit of an airy-fairy look and sometimes confusion πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

I didn't want to be a teacher, or a nurse, a lawyer, or work in marketing. I loved interiors. I loved what they represented. What they give us πŸ₯°

One of my art teachers said to me (about studying ID) "What are you going to do with that?" I replied, "Be an Interior Designer..." He believed that I should have studied Fine Arts instead. I asked him what sorts of jobs I could do with that, and he couldn't answer me 🧐

The careers adviser at school said that there's no real future in this industry. It is very hard to get into and find work. "Are you sure you want to do this?"

The father of a friend asked what I was going to study after leaving high school. When I told him, he said, "Ohh you're doing one of those arty-farty courses." 😞

Basically strangers telling me that the choices I was making for myself at 18 years of age, were wrong.

Realistically, what 18 year old KNOWS EXACTLY what they're going to do "for the rest of their life"?? πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

My parents supported me and put me through 2 years of further education. I always had their support. And I will always be grateful for that.

At the end of the day, do what makes you happy. Do what makes your soul sing. Because no one else can tell you what that is. And yes, sometimes it is trial and error. But nothing is a mistake. They're just lessons πŸ’—

HELP!! Send help!!! πŸ†˜οΈ

Choosing a colour can be overwhelming. Choosing a white is even worse! 😫

There are so many variations, shades, undertones, you name it, and it falls into the white family!

Have you ever taken a white colour chip home - or worse, a tin of paint - thinking it was perfect, and it was so wrong for your space? It threw off weird undertones, it was darker than you expected, or it just actually wasn't white at all?? πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

I can see underlying shades in colours that a lot of my clients can't until it's too late.

That's the superpower of a Colour Consultant. We see things before they become a mass problem πŸ¦Έβ€β™€οΈ

Save yourself the stress of trying to choose the "perfect" white. Let me guide you through it 🀍

DM me the word "HELP" and let's look at finding you the right white for your space πŸ™Œ

That time I hung wallpaper! 🌼

A long, long time ago, in a land prior to Covid, I hung some gorgeous floral wallpaper for one of my managers at Paint Spot.

I was a little nervous that I would stuff it up.. I'd hung wallpaper before, but only in the shop for displays 😬

But it turned out so well! My manager was happy too - it looked great in her lounge. Totally changed, yet completed the look and feel of the room.

I cannot recommend wallpaper highly enough. It is a brilliant way of adding colour, pattern and personality to a space 🌈

If you've been thinking about using wallpaper in some capacity, but are a little worried about what to choose, this is my jam! I've helped thousands of customers choose wallpaper over the years.

Follow the link in my bio to book your discovery call today, so I can help you find the perfect wallpaper! 🀩

PS. Please excuse the quality of the photos - this was well before camera phones had amazing cameras on them! πŸ˜†

My space is always changing. I'm someone who ends up feeling stagnant in a space. If nothing changes, I feel stuck. I was like this as a kid too. I would change my room around to inject a bit of difference into it. Same same, but different.

I've found over the years that this is a key to change how you feel. It's a way to move energy, to reinvigorate the brain and what it sees, and even shift your mood.

We're constantly getting feedback from our surroundings. When that feedback becomes stagnant or even negative, that's when it starts to play havoc with our minds and emotions. I'll find myself feeling drained and unmotivated; almost like I've become lazy. That's because of the feedback my brain is receiving.

So what do I do? I'll move my furniture around. I'll take things out of one room and put them into another. I'll change what I have on my walls. I'll play different music; I'll change the scent I have in my oil burner. They may seem like simple things, but they make a difference.

This picture is part of my office. This is furniture from mum's house that I will eventually get around to painting. I've changed what I've had in my office about 4 or 5 times so far this year.

You do what you need to do, right?

What sorts of things do you do to invigorate your space? Leave me a comment below β˜ΊοΈπŸ‘‡

And yes, that is a 1980s Pink Panther πŸ˜‚
