π₯ The pursuit of leanness: a double-edged sword. Let's talk about what it takes to get lean and the negative impacts on your life. π’
Since all you'll hear or see is pictures of oiled up instagram models at a photoshoot - here's some insight into what it takes to get dick-skin levels of body fat and why it's Not Really Worth It
1οΈβ£ Caloric Deficit: To achieve leanness, a caloric deficit is required. This means consuming fewer calories than your body needs, which can lead to feelings of hunger and restriction. You'll feel low energy, unproductive and definitely weaker in the gym.
2οΈβ£ Increased Focus and Discipline: Getting lean requires discipline, dedication, and a laser focus on nutrition and exercise. This level of commitment can sometimes lead to obsessiveness, anxiety, and a preoccupation with food and body image.
3οΈβ£ Social Impact: Striving for leanness may impact your social life. Social events can revolve around food, making it challenging to adhere to strict dietary guidelines. You'll find yourself saying no to social events, because it's hard to track what's on the menu.
4οΈβ£ Emotional Well-being: Constantly pursuing leanness can take a toll on your emotional well-being. It may lead to negative self-talk, body dysmorphia and a distorted perception of self-worth.
5οΈβ£ Individual Differences: Each person's body is unique, and what it takes to achieve leanness can vary greatly. Comparing yourself to oiled up Instagram models can leave you feeling terrible. So, embrace your own journey and focus on self-improvement, not comparison.
So if you, or someone you know, is stuck on the perpetual, seemingly endless journey for the elusive abs...
Simply ask yourself, is it worth it?
For me, quite lean with freedom and a good social life is FAR better than really lean with a s**t life. Just some food for thought π§
