1. Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world – around 2 in 3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70.

2. The UV index in Australia is often 3 times higher than in Europe, even on cooler or cloudy days.

3. Melanoma is the most common cancer in young Australians aged 15–39, especially among young women.

4. The skin is the body’s largest organ, making up about 16% of body weight – and it’s our first line of defence against UV radiation.

5. Wearing sunscreen daily can halve your lifetime risk of melanoma, even if applied only during childhood and early adulthood.

6. Some parts of Australia record UV levels above 11 (“extreme”) almost every day in summer – meaning skin can burn in as little as 10 minutes.
